Today the henna tattoo tradition is as strong as ever, across the globe, as populations have spread. Many cultures have embraced the henna tattoo in western civilizations.

Why is Henna Tattoo Body Art So Popular?

Pure body art quality henna is a 100% all-natural powder, made from the henna plant and allergy from pure BAQ henna is extremely rare. Modern henna can be applied anywhere on the body, instead of just the hands and feet. Mehndi body art stains last only a few weeks. There is a large variety of patterns and designs to choose from.

Famous Celebrities Promoting Mehndi Body Art

In the early 1990’s, American pop culture was “introduced” to a tradition from ancient times on the hands of singer, Madonna, in a music video. She bared stylish, yet elaborately designed body art that pop culture would accept and love. Other singers and actors choosing to decorate with Mehndi body art include: Gwen Stefani, Erika Badu, Sting and wife Trudy Styler, Pink, Liv Tyler, Demi Moore, Drew Barrymore, Angela Bassett, Laura Dern, Naomi Campbell and the list goes on…

In western culture, numerous henna shops exist that have professional artists that paint Mehndi body art. There are also henna artists that are available for hire to work at a special event, like parties or other social functions.

Warning:

Due to the extremely high sifting and higher dye content needed for finer body art and bridal art application– body art quality henna is sold for this purpose -in countries outside the United States. It is extremely important to know the reputation of the company marketing henna. Packages marked “henna” are misleading and can contain extremely harmful chemicals, like Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) and other synthetic ingredients.

Please note that the FDA has not approved henna for direct application to the skin. It is unconditionally approved as a hair dye, and can only be imported for that purpose.

Saba Botanical of USA sells pure, body art quality henna (Lawsonia Inermis) for use as a natural hair dye. Sold in 100 gm. packages.
