12 Ancient Tips for Healthy Hair Growth with a Modern Twist

12 Ancient Tips for Healthy Hair Growth with a Modern Twist–by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Tips to Nourish Your Healthy Hair Externally

You might be surprised that most of the following tips for healthy hair have been used in Southern Asian countries for ages. Some have been given an updated touch with a couple of other beneficial tips.
  • For stopping your hair from graying, you can mix Bhringraj (Eclipta alba), Amla powder and crushed black sesame seeds. Make a paste and apply to wet hair; wait about 20-30 minutes; gently rinse out.
  • An occasional hot-oil treatment restores moisture balance and adds suppleness to hair. Natural herbal oils such as extra-virgin olive oil, organic coconut oil, cold-pressed castor oil and flaxseed oil are known to help strengthen, regrow hair and to eliminate dandruff.
  • Mix 1-2 tablespoons of mayonnaise with approximately 8 mashed strawberries. Massage into clean, damp hair; then cover with plastic cap/wrap and wrap in a warm towel. Wash out with an all-in-one natural shampoo/conditioner (such as, Lustrous Henna® Shampoo Powder). Your hair will feel the results, feeling conditioned and with added sheen.
  • Got dandruff? Soak ground fenugreek seeds overnight in water; next morning, make a paste and massage into scalp. Leave it on for about 20 minutes; gently rinse out.
  • Want more luster? Thoroughly mash a banana in honey (or use a jar of organic baby banana); apply to hair and leave on for 30-40 minutes. Gently rinse out; then wash out with an all-in-one natural shampoo/conditioner (such as, Lustrous Henna® Shampoo Powder).
  • Don’t stress your tresses! Reduce anxiety and anger by using relaxation exercises found in yoga, meditation and walking.

  • Ingest a little black currant oil to promote hair growth. Culled from black currant seeds, this oil contains a particular type of fat, GLA, that helps strengthen hair and decrease breakage. Take 500 mg twice a day or add 5 drops to a glass of water. Look for black currant oil capsules containing at least 45 mg of GLA. Avoid topical oil preparations.
  • Extra-virgin olive oil should be included in a healthy diet; it can help promote hair growth and prevent hair loss.
  • Get ‘nutty’! Walnuts, peanuts and almonds contain zinc and biotin, an essential B vitamin that helps maintain a healthy scalp and promotes hair growth. Cashews are also a good source of zinc, a mineral that strengthens hair follicles.
  • Hydrate from the inside: DRINK WATER!
  • BONUS TIP: Always maintain a balanced diet with exercise for healthy hair. Drinking plenty of water and eating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables is probably the best way to achieving healthy hair. Okay, you know about this tip –but it can’t be emphasized enough.
  • Try to eat salmon (preferable wild Alaskan salmon), sardines, herring or mackerel two or three times a week for omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Vegans can sprinkle two tablespoons of freshly ground flaxseeds per day on your cereal or salads, or eat walnuts for omega-3 fatty acids.
