Chemical Hair Dye Allergy? This Natural Plant-based Dye Works.

Chemical Hair Dye Allergy? This Natural Plant-based Dye Works -by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Does Chemical Hair Dye Allergy
-have you frustrated?

Can you relate to any of the following comments from sufferers of chemical hair dye allergy (allergic contact dermatitis)?
  • “I'm 46 and was covering the grey in my dark brown hair for years without a problem, then suddenly last year my scalp blew up with swollen patches, itchy rash all over my forehead, and my head felt like it was on fire. I kept dying my hair because I didn't make the connection--how could I react to something I'd been using for years? It took three doctors before someone figured it out.”*
  • “Yesterday I used C—G--B permanent hair color (have used this product for 4 years). This is the first time I've had an allergic reaction--itchy red spots on the back of my head. The folks at ----  were very helpful, but bottom line is that they recommend: not using any hair color products at all, but to see my doctor to get tested to see which ingredients I'm sensitive to…”
  • “My scalp blew up about 15 years ago after getting my hair colored and highlighted with the same stuff the salon always used. Looking back I did have some warning because I noticed it burned a little once and the next time it burned a little and my scalp felt really tight afterwards. The third time I ended up at the Doctor’s and on antibiotics because the glands on my scalp swelled up. I didn't even know there were glands on my scalp!”

-proven to stop chemical hair dye frustration.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be happy and satisfied like the following users of 100% natural plant-based hair dye?
  • “Always Perfect. I've used this color product for about 10 years because it is and does what it says. It leaves my hair beautifully colored and nourish. The ordering process is easy and delivery is fast. I desperately had to find a hair product that didn't give me such an adverse reaction. I looked on the Internet and came across this beauty with all natural ingredients (and NO PPD, which causes allergic reaction). Thank you!”
  • “I ordered Lustrous Henna® from your company and used it today. This is the first time I have ever used Henna on my 62, almost 63 year-old hair. The smell is grassy, and fresh –not objectionable at all, and it was relatively easy to mix. I have dark hair, with some gray, and was expecting it to be a bit darker, but it looks good. I was not expecting the reddish tone that it gave my gray hair, but it actually looks nice…that being said, I was REALLY impressed with how soft and clean my hair is! Next time, I think I will add some indigo, though, so it turns out darker. As a first time customer, I am very pleased, and expect to order more in the future.”
  • “Have been using this henna for about 5 years now, and love how it leaves my hair looking and feeling. People stop me in the street to compliment me on my hair...for real!!”
  • “I love this product! It covers the gray very well, looks natural and lasts until it’s time to have my hair cut and colored again. I get compliments on the color and how natural it looks. Most of all, I am happy that I found a product that is not chemical-based. I would encourage anyone to give it a try.”

Promote Hair Growth–use Healthy Oil from the Bath

Promote Hair Growth–use Healthy Oil from the Bath -by L.J. O’Neal, writer. Promote Hair Growth with Healthy Oils
from the Bath

As I mentioned in the previous post, natural herbal oils you probably already use for skin care are known to help protect, strengthen, regrow hair and eliminate dandruff, They’re easy to apply, and when used along with the natural botanical powders, might make a difference in your rate of hair growth in just a few short months. The healthy hair oils from the kitchen and bath include: virgin coconut oil, flaxseed oil, extra-virgin olive oil and cold-pressed castor oil.

Healthy Hair Oil: Castor Oil

Cold Pressed and Cold Processed Castor oil is very thick and its scent might not be as pleasing to the senses as other oils, but its benefits to your scalp and skin will definitely please you. Some prefer to mix it with other oils, to thin out the consistency. That’s an individual choice.

Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil is a natural emollient that penetrates the surface layers of the skin, making it softer and supple. Perfect for dry feet and heels or other excessively dry skin areas. A few of the benefits to the hair and scalp: Prevents dry scalp; Moisturizes hair and eliminates dry hair; deep conditions hair and scalp; thickens thin hair; prevents and reduces hair breakage and damage; increases hair growth; adds fullness and shine to hair; prevents and stops split ends (when applied on hair ends); stops frizziness; improves hair health.

Promote Hair Growth–use Healthy Oil from the Bath -by L.J. O’Neal, writer. Healthy Hair Oil: Lavender Oil

Lavender oil is great oil used for soothing aromatherapy and de-stressing the body. It’s also used for its effectiveness in promoting healthy hair growth. It helps stop hair loss by nourishing and protecting hair follicles. Simply massage gently into the scalp to soothe dry, itchy skin and to calm your nerves. Since it helps you rest your body, it helps guard against thinning hair.

How to Use Healthy Hair Oils with Natural Botanical Products

  1. Oil your scalp and roots, then section your hair, lightly applying oil from ends to roots prior to using Lustrous Henna® Dry Shampoo Powder. Start off with a light oiling of ½ tsp. or less, until the proper amount is obtained.
  2. Wrap Hair in plastic wrap/plastic cap and leave oil on for about 30 minutes. If you want a hot oil treatment, add heat for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Wet hair and apply prepared Lustrous Henna® Dry Shampoo Powder paste* to hair with fingertips (a small rubber spatula can aid in application, but not necessary). Making the shampoo paste takes about 30 seconds. Press and lightly massage throughout hair. (follow-up gently-using a large-tooth comb for full coverage). Leave on for 5 minutes, and then rinse out until hair is completely free of shampoo.
  4. There is no need to follow up with a conditioner if you have fine to normal hair. However, if you insist on using a conditioner try Imbue™ Nuturing Conditioner. If you have extremely dry, course or damaged hair, try So Natural™ Moisture Gloss Conditioner from Saba Botanical of USA.
There you have it, oils that you use for other purposes in your kitchen and bath -that can benefit your hair. In addition, always remember that another thing in your kitchen that will help promote healthy hair growth is: healthy food. Indeed, for totally healthy hair care, a healthy diet, plenty of exercise and proper rest are absolutely essential.

Promote Hair Growth–use Healthy Oil from the Kitchen

Promote Hair Growth with Healthy Oilfrom the Kitchen

Did you know that natural herbal oils you probably already use for skin care are known to help protect, strengthen, regrow hair and eliminate dandruff? They’re easy to apply, and when used along with the natural botanical powders, might make a difference in your rate of hair growth in just a few short months. The healthy hair oils from the kitchen and bath include: virgin coconut oil, flaxseed oil, extra-virgin olive oil and cold-pressed castor oil.

Promote Hair Growth–use Healthy Oil from the Kitchen -by L.J. O’Neal, writer. Healthy Hair Oil: Virgin Coconut Oil

Virgin Coconut oil is unadulterated and free of chemical or other additives. Virgin Coconut oil is an excellent pre-shampoo treatment because it not only coats the hair, it penetrates the hair shaft.

Coconut oil has been used to promote healthy hair growth, literally, for centuries. Protein loss is reduced and hair is protected from drying and breaking due to the medium chain triglycerides (MCT) contain within coconut oil. This is also a substance that is contained in sebum (an oily substance secreted from the sebaceous glands that keep the scalp moist). The scalp contains ‘friendly’ bacteria that break down the MCT into free fatty acids.  This is what provides protection against scalp problems such as dandruff and head lice. The oil also adds a radiant sheen to the hair.

Promote Hair Growth–use Healthy Oil from the Kitchen -by L.J. O’Neal, writer. Healthy Hair Oil: Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseed oil contains an abundance of Omega-3 fatty acids that promote healthy hair growth. It’s known to revitalize the scalp in part due to its anti-inflammatory properties. The essential fatty acids have been known to combat psoriasis and eczema. Flaxseed oil, when taken as a dietary supplement, also promotes shiny, radiant and healthy hair.
Flaxseed oil can be found in whole food markets and other all-natural or herb stores. You can make your own at a fraction of the price and make sure it’s stored in amber glass instead of black plastic, but you will have to invest in a cold-press oil extractor.

To make Cold-pressed flaxseed oil, you’ll still need to purchase flax seed and an oil press extractor. Flax seed can be found easily in international farmer's markets and better grocery stores. For information on purchasing an Oil Press Extractor unit, do your own research and make your own purchasing decision according to your budget and personal need.

Promote Hair Growth–use Healthy Oil from the Kitchen -by L.J. O’Neal, writer. Healthy Hair Oil: Virgin or Extra-Virgin Olive Oil

Being rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, olive oil nourishes the hair. It is a natural conditioner and great for healthy hair shine. The emollient contained within olive oil improves hair strength, thus enabling it to grow by, stopping hair fall and breakage.  Hair elasticity also increases. An olive oil scalp massage is a wonderful stress reducer.

Why Virgin or Extra-Virgin Olive Oil for Hair?

Extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) comes from virgin oil production only, contains no more than 0.8% acidity (smell is not as pungent).  Virgin olive oil comes from virgin oil production only, has an acidity less than 2. This differs from Pure olive oil.

Oils labeled as Pure olive oil or Olive oil are usually a blend of refined and virgin production oil. Per Wikipedia: “Over 50% of the oil produced in the Mediterranean area is of such poor quality that it must be refined … Note that no solvents have been used to extract the oil, but it has been refined with the use of charcoal and other chemical and physical filters.”

…and now you know why it’s best to use Extra-Virgin or Virgin Olive Oil to promote healthy hair growth.

You can rub me down with just about anything at a spa- mud, seaweed, chocolate, blueberries- I’ve done it all. This is one of the best facial masks I have ever tried. It mixes with water and apply the paste. I left it on for about an hour and then washed off. You can feel it tightening on your face and your face just lifting. It is the cheapest* facelift you will ever get!

After I washed it off I noticed an immediate glow and smoothness to my face. My skin seemed to be much more even-shaded and just wonderful. And, since I only used it on my face, I only used needed a small amount of the package. So... I could get 3-4 facials; that is my idea of home economics!

Homemade Herbal Spa Treatments to Pamper Your Body –pt. 1 of 2

Homemade Herbal Spa Treatments to Pamper Your Body –pt. 1 of 2, by L.J. O’Neal, writer.

Homemade Herbal Spa Step 1: Set the Atmosphere

Appeal to the senses and create a spa-like atmosphere in the privacy of your own home.
  • Music -nature sounds like the ocean, trickling brooks, soft classical music or some smooth jazz; choose what relaxes you.
  • Lightly scented candles or essential oil simmering in water on stovetop or oil burner are aromatic and heighten the senses.
  • If you are inviting others to join you, then cocktails, appetizers or other finger foods will also create a fun and memorable experience for all involved.

Homemade Herbal Spa Step 2: Prep the Space

Gather your supplies
  • Containers (A small bowl for the facial and manicure and a large basin or dishpan for the foot mask pedicure).
  • You’ll need towels, washcloths, dishes,
  • Access to bathroom and kitchen sinks, etc.
  • Add a comfy robe, turban and open slippers (optional, but lots of fun).
  • Make sure you have packs of Saba’s Face and Body Mask, Saba’s Orange Peel Powder and Saba’s Pure Reetha Powder. How much? Approximately one pack per person if planning on a face mask, hand mask manicure and foot mask pedicure.
Homemade Herbal Spa Step 3: Mix the Spa Treatment Recipe for Feet
Note: It’s good to begin with the feet, next the hands and finish with the face; then, your entire body will feel totally pampered. If you’ve invited guests, they can mix their own masks, it’s very simple.

Foot workout: Take a golf ball and rubbing it around the foot, concentrate on the arch and sides; or set a smooth river rock on carpeting and walk on the stone for a few minutes. If you have enough smooth rocks, you can also add them to a basin filled with warm Lustrous Henna® Soapnut (Reetha Fruit) Powder/water solution.  Rub your feet back and forth on the stones. All workouts are soothing and massage the feet.

Exfoliate and cleanse: Fill large dishpan, bucket or whatever will fit your tootsies with warm Lustrous Henna® Soapnut (Reetha Fruit) Powder/water solution. Soak feet for several minutes. Using a pumice stone (or similar item), scrub calluses off heels. Rinse, then pat dry.

Apply mask: Apply prepared Saba’s Face and Body Mask to entire foot up to ankles. After 15-30 minutes, remove mask by rinsing feet in same container, replaced with clean water. After removing foot mask, if you want to proceed with toenail manicure, do so. Gently rub feet in favorite natural skin oil; pat dry. Be gentle!

3 Tips to Find Your Best Hair Color Natural Highlights

Find Your Best Hair Color Natural Highlights

3 Tips to Find Your Best Hair Color Natural Highlights -by L.J. O'Neal, writer
1) Ask Yourself: Am I ‘Cool’ or Am I ‘Warm’?

According to color experts, our overall facial features are usually divided up into two categories: Cool and Warm. Our eye color, skin and natural hair coloring determine whether we are in the warm category or cool category. Each category varies in shades of light, medium or dark. For example, we can be a ‘cool medium’ or ‘warm light’. These ‘categories’ are also commonly called, ‘palettes’ or ‘schemes’.

2) Focus On: Eye Color, Natural/Original Hair Color and Skin Tone.
3 Tips to Find Your Best Hair Color Natural Highlights -by L.J. O’Neal, writer.

Cool Natural Beauty
Shades vary from light, medium or dark.
Cool eye color:  dark brown, black-brown, gray-blue, dark blue, hazel with white gray or blue flecks.
Cool hair (natural) color: Blue-Black (or jet black), deep brown, ash brown, ash blond, platinum blond.
Cool skin tone:  very dark brown, true olive, medium pale, medium with golden undertones, pale, bronze.

Warm Natural Beauty
Shades vary from light, medium or dark.

Warm eye color: golden brown, green, green-blue, turquoise, hazel with gold or brown flecks.
Warm hair (natural) color: deep brown with gold or red highlights, red, strawberry-blond, gray-yellow, natural or golden blond.
Warm skin tone:  brown with pink or golden undertones, peachy or with peachy undertones, pale with gold undertones, freckled, ruddy. Of course if you don’t remember what color your natural hair is or if you regularly use tanning beds, it might not be as simple. What colors currently compliments your facial features -in your wardrobe-should be able to determine if you are warm or cool. Blue, green and violet are cool hues. Red, orange and yellows are warm hues.

Most complimentary hair color for cool skin: golden, rich brown and redder coloring.

Most complimentary hair color for warm skin: ashy shades of brown  (instead of red-browns), black, light colors.

3) Ignore the Myths. You are not a ‘cookie-cutter’.

Natural Beauty Caveat: Remember, you are: uniquely you. Your complexion and skin tone might be more of a combination that doesn't ‘fit’ into a basic category. There is not true “cookie-cutter” template on cool or warm individuals. If you’re unsure, do the following: Save some hair from your comb or hairbrush until you have enough to test for color. Do a color test by applying your chosen natural hair dye on your saved hair. This will ensure that you will like the results on your full head of hair.

Remember: when you think more about skin tone, eye color and your natural hair color, you’ll be happier with your choice of the Lustrous Henna® shade that naturally suits you.

12 Ancient Tips for Healthy Hair Growth with a Modern Twist

12 Ancient Tips for Healthy Hair Growth with a Modern Twist–by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Tips to Nourish Your Healthy Hair Externally

You might be surprised that most of the following tips for healthy hair have been used in Southern Asian countries for ages. Some have been given an updated touch with a couple of other beneficial tips.
  • For stopping your hair from graying, you can mix Bhringraj (Eclipta alba), Amla powder and crushed black sesame seeds. Make a paste and apply to wet hair; wait about 20-30 minutes; gently rinse out.
  • An occasional hot-oil treatment restores moisture balance and adds suppleness to hair. Natural herbal oils such as extra-virgin olive oil, organic coconut oil, cold-pressed castor oil and flaxseed oil are known to help strengthen, regrow hair and to eliminate dandruff.
  • Mix 1-2 tablespoons of mayonnaise with approximately 8 mashed strawberries. Massage into clean, damp hair; then cover with plastic cap/wrap and wrap in a warm towel. Wash out with an all-in-one natural shampoo/conditioner (such as, Lustrous Henna® Shampoo Powder). Your hair will feel the results, feeling conditioned and with added sheen.
  • Got dandruff? Soak ground fenugreek seeds overnight in water; next morning, make a paste and massage into scalp. Leave it on for about 20 minutes; gently rinse out.
  • Want more luster? Thoroughly mash a banana in honey (or use a jar of organic baby banana); apply to hair and leave on for 30-40 minutes. Gently rinse out; then wash out with an all-in-one natural shampoo/conditioner (such as, Lustrous Henna® Shampoo Powder).
  • Don’t stress your tresses! Reduce anxiety and anger by using relaxation exercises found in yoga, meditation and walking.

12 Ancient Tips for Healthy Hair Growth with a Modern Twist–by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Ancient Tips to Nourish Your Healthy Hair Internally

  • Ingest a little black currant oil to promote hair growth. Culled from black currant seeds, this oil contains a particular type of fat, GLA, that helps strengthen hair and decrease breakage. Take 500 mg twice a day or add 5 drops to a glass of water. Look for black currant oil capsules containing at least 45 mg of GLA. Avoid topical oil preparations.
  • Extra-virgin olive oil should be included in a healthy diet; it can help promote hair growth and prevent hair loss.
  • Get ‘nutty’! Walnuts, peanuts and almonds contain zinc and biotin, an essential B vitamin that helps maintain a healthy scalp and promotes hair growth. Cashews are also a good source of zinc, a mineral that strengthens hair follicles.
  • Hydrate from the inside: DRINK WATER!
  • BONUS TIP: Always maintain a balanced diet with exercise for healthy hair. Drinking plenty of water and eating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables is probably the best way to achieving healthy hair. Okay, you know about this tip –but it can’t be emphasized enough.
  • Try to eat salmon (preferable wild Alaskan salmon), sardines, herring or mackerel two or three times a week for omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Vegans can sprinkle two tablespoons of freshly ground flaxseeds per day on your cereal or salads, or eat walnuts for omega-3 fatty acids.

Lustrous Henna® –Why Use it to Color Your Hair? –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Lustrous Henna® – What it’s Not
Lustrous Henna® is NOT the hair dye with the misnomer: ‘Black Henna’.

When thinking of the product commonly imported and sold as ‘Black Henna’please don’t confuse it with Lustrous Henna® in Soft Black. These are two totally different products, one is potentially dangerous; the other is actually beneficial and healthy. Lustrous Henna® in Soft Black is totally natural and conditioning. It’s superior quality pure henna combined with pure indigo. It’s nontoxic, herbal hair color.
Consider the following facts about the dangerous hair dye, ‘Black Henna’:
  • The name 'Black Henna' is a confusing misnomer.
  • 'Black Henna', manufacturedfor skin (tattoo) and hair dye products, is a combination of chemical dyes mixed with natural, usually low-grade plants made into a black powder or liquid dye.
  • 'Black Henna' hair dye is not pure, nor is it pure henna. Pure henna is not black. If pure henna is mixed with para-phenylenediamine (PPD), 'coal tar', it is no longer pure henna, but is a harmful chemical hair dye that can cause severe allergic contact dermatitis and even be deadly.
  • 'Black Henna' hair dye is usually composed of poor quality henna mixed with dangerous chemicals; some proven to be quite toxic, such as: para-phenylenediamine (PPD) and more.
  • 'Black Henna' Hair Dye is advertised as being high quality, beneficial and safe; this can be confusing to the unaware consumer.
  • 'Black Henna' hair dye can ruin your hair and skin permanently.
  • 'Black Henna' is not pure indigo or 'black indigo'; the indigo plant is not black. If indigo is mixed with chemicals dyes, or even henna that has been compromised by chemicals, including PPD, then it is not pure indigo or the so-called, 'black henna'. It is a harmful chemical hair dye.

Lustrous Henna® –Why Use it to Color Your Hair?

Using Lustrous Henna® natural hair dye is still a better choice than using plain henna. It’s a much quicker application. Like traditional henna, Lustrous Henna® natural hair dye also works as a natural hair conditioner and help promote hair growth. The result: healthier hair benefits for men and women.

3 Natural Hair Coloring Tips for the Pregnant Mom

3 Natural Hair Coloring Tips for the Pregnant Mom –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Pregnant Mom Natural Hair Coloring Tip #1
Chemical Hair Dye is Not the Best Hair Dye for Pregnant Women

It is strongly recommended by most obstetricians, gynecologists and other health care professionals, that pregnant women NOT use permanent hair dye during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Your baby is undergoing very important neurological fetal development during your first three months of pregnancy. Low levels of permanent chemical dye are absorbed into the scalp and passed through the body and have been identified in urine samples.
Additionally, breathing toxic fumes from permanent chemical dyes can be harmful to fetal development. Of course, all pregnant women want to protect the baby from any kind of potential danger.

3 Natural Hair Coloring Tips for the Pregnant Mom –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.“I was so excited to try out this henna dye! But so nervous at the same time! I have never dyed my hair before and I decided to go with the Lustrous Henna® Mahogany to give my hair a little red touch!
Thanks to my husband's help, it was really easy to do and took about a couple hours to complete the whole process. I loved that I could do it in the comfort and privacy of my own home and watch TV at the same time! It made the time go by really fast!
It was also great to know I got a beautiful color but without all the harmful ingredients! The color came out pretty red at first but it eventually blended in and looked gorgeous! I love my new hair color and I can't wait to buy a different color next time!
I recommend Saba Botanical Lustrous Henna Hair Color for all men and women who either want to cover grays or just want a new hair color/change like me! The colors are gorgeous, don't dry your hair out, and are safe for everyone to use!”
