Healthy Hair Needs an Easy Hair Care Routine

Healthy Hair Needs an Easy Hair Care Routine –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.
Healthy Hair Washing
How Often Should I Wash My Hair?

That depends on the natural condition and texture of your hair. Generally it is recommended to wash your hair 2-3 times a week if your hair is normal with proper moisture balance. Wash hair daily if it is excessively oily and baby fine. If your hair texture is coarse, excessively dry or brittle, then wash it once a week (or even less). If you feel the need to wash your hair more often than recommended, try using a co-wash (conditioner-only wash).

Wash your hair with a gentle shampoo that will provide the best care for your hair type and texture. Suggestions: Imbue™ Natural Shampoo1 (for fine to normal hair), So Natural™ Nurturing Shampoo2 (for excessively dry hair), Lustrous Henna® Shampoo Powder3 from Saba Botanical of USA are excellent choices for all hair types.

How Do I Shampoo Properly?

Using small, circular movements, move fingers over entire head, including nape of neck.  Massage your scalp to increase blood flow, thus encouraging hair growth and provide stimulation to natural oils for shiny, radiant hair.

Healthy Hair Conditioning
How Do I Condition My Hair?

  • Add Shine, Protect and Moisturize: Your hair also needs to be hydrated regularly in order to maintain its healthy appearance. Use your hands to apply conditioner liberally from roots to ends but comb your conditioner-soaked hair (using a wide-tooth comb) from ends to roots –gently.
  • Coarse, Curly hair is usually dry hair because it’s easier for the natural oils in the scalp to run down the hair shaft if the hair is straight. Coarse, curly textured hair loves creamy, ultra-moisturizing conditioners.  For a Co-Wash (Conditioner only-Wash), rinse hair with water, then add conditioner to the wet hair, wait, then rinse out gently. Use a monthly hot oil treatment. If you suffer from extra-dry hair, every 2 weeks use an intense moisturizing treatment.
  • Fine hair can appear oily within hours of washing. Better to use a lighter conditioner or none at all if you can comb your hair easily after cleansing. Apply conditioner from mid-shaft to ends, avoiding the scalp. Rinse out quickly. Lustrous Henna™ Shampoo Powder is an excellent choice for fine, oily or limp hair because there is no need to follow up with a conditioner (when not necessary). Additionally, use a little bit of Multani Mitti Clay Powder4 (Fullers Earth) to wash excessively oily hair. The powder will soak up oils.
  • Dry, damaged hair needs: Ultra moisturizing, creamy conditioner to smooth and detangle the hair.  Avoid everything that causes dryness to the hair like blow dryers. Don’t dehydrate the hair by washing it every day. It will look frizzy and out of control. Always follow shampoo with a good moisturizing conditioner like So Natural™ Nurturing Conditioner6. Let your curls dry naturally.
Healthy Hair Styling
What should I remember when styling?
  • Regarding hair styling products, the most important thing to remember is: don’t use too much.  There is no need to weigh down your hair. If you need to tame flyaway hairs, use a light, medium or stronger hair gel depending on your hair texture.5 Always protect your hair from the heat from flat irons, blow dryers, etc. Be gentle when styling your hair daily.
At Night, Gently Brush Your Hair

  • Gently brushing hair at night will help you to untangle any knots that made their way into your locks during the day.
  • Covering hair protects it. Or if you don’t want to cover hair, sleep on a satin pillowcase.
