Natural Hair Care Recipes and Grooming Tips for Real Men

Natural Hair Care Recipes and Grooming Tips for Men –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.

Real Men’s Natural Hair Care Recipes

Real Men: Give Yourself a Scalp Message
A regular scalp massage helps prevent hair loss and promotes healthy hair growth. Start by gently massaging hair with oil known to benefit hair and scalp such as: almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil or extra-virgin olive oil (eevo). Cover hair with plastic cap for 15-20 minutes. Follow up with a small paste of Lustrous Henna® Shampoo Powder and water; gently rinse out (no need for additional conditioner). Lustrous Henna®Shampoo Powder contains cleansing and conditioning ingredients that have been used for thousands of years to nourish and condition hair; prevent hair fall; stop dandruff and more.

Naturally Condition Hair for Real Men with Brahmi Powder

Using Saba’s Pure Brahmi Powder, make a paste matching the consistency of thick pancake batter. Immediately apply the paste to your scalp area, touching hair roots; then to rest of hair. Start gently massaging the paste into the scalp by using small circular motions. Cover hair with plastic cap for about an hour, and then wash out with a natural shampoo, like Lustrous Henna® Shampoo Powder. This routine can be followed weekly. Brahmi is an ancient traditional remedy used to nourish and thicken hair.

Real Men Prevent Split Ends with Amla and Shikakai

Make a paste of approximately 4 tablespoons of water and 1-2 tablespoons each of the Amla and Shikakai powders. Apply paste to completely cover the hair.  Using a plastic cap, cover hair for about 15-20 minutes, then gently rinse out.  Note: Split ends can be prevented and repaired by using Saba’s Pure Amla Powder and Saba’s Pure Shikakai Powder.  Amla is known to condition and heal damaged hair. Shikakai is an ancient fruit that grows on trees, called, “fruit for hair”.

Real Men Don’t Forget Balanced Nutrition for Healthy Hair

Your diet is really important. It’s essential to eat healthy food like vegetables, fruits, milk products help make your hair healthy. A nutrient-rich balanced diet filled with lean protein; omega-3 fatty acids; zinc; vitamins A, C, B-12; iron; biotin; and calcium. Healthy eating is not only important for healthy hair, it's absolutely essential.

Real Men’s Natural Grooming Tips to Remember

  • Sport the hairstyle that defines you and your personality; however, be aware of your surroundings. Nowadays, it’s usually not important, as long as you look groomed. Yet, we know that circumstances might dictate the hairstyle we select.
  • Got a mustache or Beard? Trim and shape it daily.
  • Love the unshaven, stubble look? Keep it trimmed and look good, not haggard!
  • Define your manly eyebrows, by separating and neatly trimming. Lots of emotion is expressed with your eyebrows, so avoid the ‘no-care’ and out-of-control manic look.
  • Trim your nose hairs so that they are not visible. ‘Nuf said.
  • Ear hair: Ditto (just like nose hairs).
  • Hairy neck? Clean up that nape. If you can’t do it, have your barber shape it for you.
  • Keep your sideburns trims; they really shouldn’t cover your ears.
Real men remember: A regular hair care and grooming routine will bring many benefits, plus -you’ll look great!

Grow Healthy Hair from the Inside Out with Water

Grow Healthy Hair from the Inside Out with Water –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Water Essential to Grow Healthy Hair

Arthur Guyton’s Textbook of Medical Physiology states "the total amount of water in a man of average weight (70 kilograms) is approximately 40 litres, averaging 57 percent of his total body weight. In a newborn infant, this may be as high as 79 percent of the body weight, but it progressively decreases from birth to old age, most of the decrease occurring during the first 10 years of life. * This all means that our entire body, including our hair, needs a constant supply of water to be healthy.

Water also makes up 25% of our hair shaft. Our roots draw water from inside our skin and transport it to the tips of every hair. Logic thus dictates that in order to keep that much water in our hair shaft, we must do it from the inside out.  Water is an absolute necessity for healthy skin and hair nourishment. For well-hydrated cells, we must drink adequate amounts of water. This can mean the difference between having moisturized, healthy growing, and radiant natural hair or dry, brittle, and lifeless hair -caused by chronic dehydration of natural hair.

Healthy Hair Regimen

Although there is no single, strict regimen that everyone should adhere to for assured growth of natural hair, there are common factors that apply to all. Lifestyle, diet and hair type must factor into a healthy hair maintenance routine.

Lifestyle
An active lifestyle that includes regular exercise helps stimulate the blood flow. Nutrient-rich blood nourishes the hair follicles and this promotes healthy hair growth. Insufficient blood flow from a sedentary lifestyle won’t help the hair follicles. Additionally, stress is known to cause hair loss and a good exercise routine helps eliminate stress. So, exercise is another great aid to prevent hair loss and promote hair growth. Finally, when we exercise, we avoid chronic dehydration because our bodies crave…guess what? Water.

Hair Type

"Hair type" is a hot topic in current news. Hair type can be straight, curly, and various textures. Basically, our hair type help determines the way we would care for and maintain our hair for healthy hair growth. A simple example is that daily maintenance and styling of naturally curly hair is usually different than daily maintenance of naturally straight hair, even though all hair needs nourishment, proper cleaning and conditioning.

Diet and Nutrition

A well-balanced nutritious diet can help promote human hair growth. That means drinking adequate amounts of water. The vitamins and minerals you get from your healthy food will enter your bloodstream quicker when there is sufficient water to assist them to do their job.  Water also helps your body eliminate toxins that can interfere with healthy hair growth.

Final Note on Water and Hair Growth

Don’t deprive your natural hair of this magnificent “water cycle” going on in our own bodies. If you do, you will not only damage your hair, causing it to become dry and brittle, it may stop growing permanently. Therefore, to help your natural hair reach its maximum growth potential:
Water your hair from the inside out!

Healthy Hair Needs an Easy Hair Care Routine

Healthy Hair Needs an Easy Hair Care Routine –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.
Healthy Hair Washing
How Often Should I Wash My Hair?

That depends on the natural condition and texture of your hair. Generally it is recommended to wash your hair 2-3 times a week if your hair is normal with proper moisture balance. Wash hair daily if it is excessively oily and baby fine. If your hair texture is coarse, excessively dry or brittle, then wash it once a week (or even less). If you feel the need to wash your hair more often than recommended, try using a co-wash (conditioner-only wash).

Wash your hair with a gentle shampoo that will provide the best care for your hair type and texture. Suggestions: Imbue™ Natural Shampoo1 (for fine to normal hair), So Natural™ Nurturing Shampoo2 (for excessively dry hair), Lustrous Henna® Shampoo Powder3 from Saba Botanical of USA are excellent choices for all hair types.

Healthy Hair Washing
How Do I Shampoo Properly?

Using small, circular movements, move fingers over entire head, including nape of neck.  Massage your scalp to increase blood flow, thus encouraging hair growth and provide stimulation to natural oils for shiny, radiant hair.

Healthy Hair Conditioning
How Do I Condition My Hair?

  • Add Shine, Protect and Moisturize: Your hair also needs to be hydrated regularly in order to maintain its healthy appearance. Use your hands to apply conditioner liberally from roots to ends but comb your conditioner-soaked hair (using a wide-tooth comb) from ends to roots –gently.
  • Coarse, Curly hair is usually dry hair because it’s easier for the natural oils in the scalp to run down the hair shaft if the hair is straight. Coarse, curly textured hair loves creamy, ultra-moisturizing conditioners.  For a Co-Wash (Conditioner only-Wash), rinse hair with water, then add conditioner to the wet hair, wait, then rinse out gently. Use a monthly hot oil treatment. If you suffer from extra-dry hair, every 2 weeks use an intense moisturizing treatment.
  • Fine hair can appear oily within hours of washing. Better to use a lighter conditioner or none at all if you can comb your hair easily after cleansing. Apply conditioner from mid-shaft to ends, avoiding the scalp. Rinse out quickly. Lustrous Henna™ Shampoo Powder is an excellent choice for fine, oily or limp hair because there is no need to follow up with a conditioner (when not necessary). Additionally, use a little bit of Multani Mitti Clay Powder4 (Fullers Earth) to wash excessively oily hair. The powder will soak up oils.
  • Dry, damaged hair needs: Ultra moisturizing, creamy conditioner to smooth and detangle the hair.  Avoid everything that causes dryness to the hair like blow dryers. Don’t dehydrate the hair by washing it every day. It will look frizzy and out of control. Always follow shampoo with a good moisturizing conditioner like So Natural™ Nurturing Conditioner6. Let your curls dry naturally.
Healthy Hair Styling
What should I remember when styling?
  • Regarding hair styling products, the most important thing to remember is: don’t use too much.  There is no need to weigh down your hair. If you need to tame flyaway hairs, use a light, medium or stronger hair gel depending on your hair texture.5 Always protect your hair from the heat from flat irons, blow dryers, etc. Be gentle when styling your hair daily.
At Night, Gently Brush Your Hair

  • Gently brushing hair at night will help you to untangle any knots that made their way into your locks during the day.
  • Covering hair protects it. Or if you don’t want to cover hair, sleep on a satin pillowcase.

DIY Tips and Natural Treatments for Excessively Oily Hair

DIY Tips and Natural Treatments for Excessively Oily Hair –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.

DIY Tips for Excessively Oily Hair Care Naturally

  • It is absolutely essential to stimulate circulation via scalp massage.
  • Regular brushing is also vital to distribute natural oils and promote healthy hair growth.
  • Add just a drop of one of the following essential oils to a little bit of mild shampoo to discourage excess oil production by the scalp: lemon, lemongrass, cedarwood, cypress, sage, patchouli.
  • Use Lustrous Henna® Shampoo Powder to condition hair, reduce oil and eliminate dandruff.
  • Avoid harsh shampoos containing detergents that dry hair too much, in turn your scalp responds by producing even more oil to compensate. (Good shampoo cleans without stripping your natural oils or irritating your eyes).
  • Use a sage tea rinse to eliminate excess oil and reduce dandruff.
  • Use an apple cider vinegar rinse (ACV rinse) regularly, as needed.

Simple Treatments and Herbal Shampoos for Oily Hair Care

Apply a muddy paste of Multani Clay Powder (mixed w/water) to hair and scalp. Leave on for 30 minutes. Using warm water, completely rinse the mud from hair and scalp.

Then choose one of the following:

Lustrous Henna® Shampoo Powder is 100% natural and premixed with hibiscus flower and other natural herbal extracts. Just add a small amount of water and make a paste. Apply to hair. Wait 5-10 minutes and rinse out.

Pure Reetha Powder Organic Wash Mixture: Add 12 drops each chamomile and lavender essential oils to 2 tbsps. Reetha Powder made into a paste with a small amount of water. Apply to hair. Wait 5-10 minutes and rinse out.

Apple Cider Vinegar Herbal Rinse for Oily Hair Care

An ACV or apple cider vinegar rinse is quite beneficial for treating oily hair. It rinses off excess oil and discourages dandruff. It also cuts soap and shampoo residue, leaving hair soft, smooth and naturally shiny. No worries: the vinegar smell does not remain after rinsing.

1 pint boiling water
1 teaspoon 3 or more: burdock root, calendula flowers, chamomile flowers, lavender flowers, lemongrass, sage leaves
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Pour boiling water over herbs and steep for about 30 minutes. Strain and add vinegar. Let cool. Pour over scalp and hair as final rinse after shampooing (with either shampoo suggested below). Leave on without rinsing out.

DIY Quick Dry Shampoo

Divide hair into sections and fluff a little Multani Clay Powder through each section. Rub in well and leave on for 10 minutes. Brush out thoroughly with a clean brush. The Multani Clay Powder will absorb most of the oil and dirt from hair. (Can be done if it’s inconvenient to do traditional shampoo).

Brahmi – Amla Hair Growth Pack Made at Home

Why Brahmi for Hair?

Brahmi (scientific name: Bacopa monnieri) has been long used as a hair tonic to provide nourishment and vitality for radiant hair color. By nourishing the hair roots and scalp, it is known to reduce hair fall and premature baldness, clears dandruff from scalp, thus promoting healthy and lustrous hair with no side effects.

Brahmi – Amla Hair Growth Pack Made at Home –by L.J. O’Neal, writer. Why Amla for Hair?

The scientific name for Amla is Emblica officinalis. It’s more commonly known as Indian gooseberry. Amla powder (Emblica officinalis) is a wonderful cleansing agent for both the skin and hair. It imparts luster to hair and protects from dandruff, also helps prevent premature gray hair. Amla stimulates growth of hair on the scalp, and strengthens the hair roots, thus preventing hair loss. Amla extract in all natural shampoo does not deposit any color on the hair and can be used by everyone. Amla extract helps replace the nourishment lost by hair gels, chemical hair color and hair spray.

Brahmi - Amla Deep Conditioning Hair Growth Mask

To simply mix with plain or rose water, you can use the directions located on the package of Saba’s Brahmi Powder or try this suggestion.
2 tablespoons each of Brahmi powder, Amla powder
1 tablespoon each of Tulsi powder and Neem powder
Note: Neem powder has a very pungent smell, so add 1-2 drops of a fragrant essential oil, if desired. (lavender, rosemary, ylang-ylang, etc.)
Mix the Saba powders together; add enough water to make a workable pudding-like paste. (If desired, you can add ⅛ to ¼ cup of melted coconut oil to paste.) Apply to hair; cover with plastic wrap or cap. Leave on for 30 minutes; then gently rinse hair with warm water. If desired, follow up with Lustrous Henna Shampoo Powder to make sure all powder has been removed from hair; no need to use an additional conditioner.

More About Tulsi and Neem Powders

Tulsi powder helps to achieve stronger and healthy skin and hair by hydrating the scalp, treating and removing dandruff. Tulsi powder nourishes dry scalp for a healthy and itch-free scalp. Tulsi energizes hair by promoting blood circulation.
Known benefit of neem leaf powder for scalp and hair: Helps control dandruff, reduce scalp itchiness, enhances hair growth rate and conditions hair. The benefits far outweigh the rather pungent smell; no worries: the smell doesn’t remain after conditioning.

DIY All-Natural Hair Care with Ancient Botanicals

DIY All-Natural Hair Care with Ancient Botanicals –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.DIY All-Natural Hair Care Works for Me

This writer chooses all-natural hair care. When I used harmful hair-smoothing treatments containing chemicals like formaldehyde; along with the regular use of chemical hair dye filled with PPD (para-phenylenediamine), I seriously damaged my hair and scalp. I fell for the TV advertising and even products promoted by my former hair stylists.  Fortunately, my current natural hair care routine has helped my hair to become healthier and my hair loss has stopped. I rarely use heat on my hair; when I do, I take proper precautions, using natural botanicals to protect my locks.

I can honestly say that all-natural products from Saba Botanical of USA have not disappointed me. The products that helped me to naturally transition from chemical relaxers and chemical hair dye to all-natural hair care. I’m not the only one who has experienced superior natural hair care. By switching to all natural plant-based hair care, you too, can avoid formaldehyde exposure and a host of other dangerous chemicals in conventional hair products. The following links can further help you make the wise decision to get started on a natural hair care regime.
