Let’s face it: Suffering from athlete’s foot is an embarrassing, aggravating nightmare that can cause you to suffer day and night -without let up! However since athlete’s foot is caused by a fungus and is contagious, you need to work to get rid of it and prevent future outbreaks. While there are over-the-counter temporary solutions; there are also natural botanicals that can provide permanent relief from athlete’s foot. 

Athlete’s Foot Prevention

  • According to WebMd1, You can prevent athlete's foot (tinea pedis) by:
  • Keeping your feet clean and dry.
  • Dry between your toes after swimming or bathing.
  • Wear shoes or sandals that allow your feet to breathe.
  • When indoors, wear socks without shoes.
  • Wear natural fiber/moisture wicking socks that absorb sweat and keep your feet dry. 
  • Change your socks twice a day.
  • Use antifungal powder on your feet.
  • Allow your shoes to air for at least 24 hours before you wear them again.
  • Wearing shower sandals in public pools and showers.
Additionally:
  • Never, ever let your bare feet touch a gym, pool, locker room or any damp floor.
  • Never share your towel, sock and shoes with infected individual.
  • Thoroughly wash your feet with soap and water every time your change your socks.

If you’re already suffering or want to take additional steps to prevent athlete’s foot, try your choice of an all-natural foot soak. Ingredients such as neem, multani mitti clay (fuller’s earth) and cinnamon have been used for centuries throughout Asia with proven success against fungus.

Neem Leaf Powder

Neem powder has been used to treat fungal infections as an effective remedy.  The powder can applied to the affected area daily; especially between the toes.  You can also mix neem powder with cornstarch and dust the inside of your socks with this mixture.

Multani Mitti Clay (Fuller’s Earth)

Multani mitti can be applied on feet; it absorbs extra heat from the body and cools it down. It also improves blood circulation, treating acidity problems.

Multani Mitti Foot Mask

Take 3 tablespoons of Multani mitti and neem powder. Mix with milk to make a workable paste. Apply on feet; leave for 15 min. Gently rinse off with warm water. Completely dry feet with absorbent towel.
Dust affect area with Multani mitti Daily Foot Care Powder (below) before wearing socks.

Multani mitti Daily Foot Care Powder

Mix multani mitti clay powder (fuller’s earth) with equal parts of cornstarch and rub it on your feet before putting on socks. This is an excellent sweat absorbent that helps protects from athlete’s feet.

Cinnamon Foot Soak

Cinnamon has some amazing curative properties including antiseptic, antibacterial, antibacterial and more.
Boil 8-10 broken cinnamon sticks in a quart of water. Let simmer for approximately 5 minutes. Steep for and additional 40 minutes. While hot, but still tolerable, soak feet for 30-45 minutes daily.  Totally dry feet.
