Hair Loss -Is it Time for a Dermatologist Visit?

Hair Loss -Is it Time for a Dermatologist Visit? –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Hair Loss Causes: See a Dermatologist? – Probably Not
  • Are you experiencing hormonal changes due to pregnancy, postpartum and nursing?
  • Are you under lots of stress?
  • Do you suffer from a glandular disorder such as thyroid disease or PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)?
  • Are you taking medications that can cause hair loss?
  • Do you have a low iron (ferritin) level?
The conditions describe below can cause a slowing of hair growth or some hair fall, some are temporary and are within our (or our doctor’s) control to correct. We might need a change in medication, if that is possible. Additionally, some of these problems can be corrected by reducing stressful situations as much as possible. However, not all hair loss causes can be resolved easily. Hair Loss -Is it Time for a Dermatologist Visit? –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.

When a Dermatologist Visit is Advisable
According to the American Hair Loss Council*, surgeries and stress can temporarily affect hair growth: “Surgeries, severe illnesses and emotional stress can cause hair loss. The body simply shuts down production of hair during periods of stress since it is not necessary for survival and instead devotes its energies toward repairing vital body structures. In many cases there is a three month delay between the actual event and the onset of hair loss. Furthermore, there may be another three month delay prior to the return of noticeable hair regrowth. This then means that the total hair loss and regrowth cycle can last 6 months or possibly longer when induced by physical or emotional stress. There are some health conditions which may go undetected that can contribute to hair loss. These include anemia or low blood count and thyroid abnormalities. Both of these conditions can be detected by a simple, inexpensive blood test.”

An Ongoing Medical Condition
An abnormal thyroid, hormonal changes from conditions like pregnancy, menopause or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS); even medications for blood pressure and gout can contribute to hair loss (hair fall).

A Dermatologist Visit Might Be Best
If you are concerned that your hair loss is excessive, then it’s best to visit a dermatologist. In fact the American Hair Loss Council suggests the following: “First have your hair loss diagnosed by a competent dermatologist who sees hair loss patients on a regular basis. Once you know the diagnosis you will have a better understanding of exactly which treatment option may be best for you.”

“Product Innovation: Lustrous Henna” by L.J. O’Neal, writerProduct Innovation Defined

“The development and market introduction of a new, redesigned or substantially improved good or service. Examples of product innovation by a business might include a new product’s invention; technical specification and quality improvements made to a product; or the inclusion of new components, materials or desirable functions into an existing product.” –BusinessDictionary.com1

“Product innovation is the creation and subsequent introduction of a good or service that is either new, or improved on previous goods or services. This is broader than the normally accepted definition of innovation to include invention of new products which, in this context, are still considered innovative.” –Wikipedia.org2

Product Innovation: Lustrous Henna

Lustrous Henna® 100% natural hair dye is a nontoxic alternative to synthetic and damaging hair colorants. Therefore, Lustrous Henna® 100% natural hair dye is an innovation in hair color treatment.

Scalp Care -Treatment that Works Naturally for All Hair Types

Scalp Care -Treatment that Works Naturally for All Hair Types –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Scalp Treatment from Within

One of the most overlooked ways to avoid scalp damage is simple to have a healthy hair maintenance routine. The most important part of healthy hair maintenance starts from inside your body: Eat a balanced diet each day with lots of water aids in growing healthy hair and preventing scalp damage. Get your blood circulating, with fresh green veggies and raw fruit. Don’t forget to include protein-rich foods for scalp treatment that works ‘from the inside out’.

Scalp Treatment with Regular Maintenance

To stimulate the cells and blood flow, a daily basic scalp massage along with a weekly deep scalp massage is absolutely essential. Get in the habit of using this proven stress reducer. Who doesn't love a good scalp massage?

Scalp Care -Treatment that Works Naturally for All Hair Types –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Basic Scalp Massage

  • Beginning with the top of your forehead, use your fingertips and gently rub your hairline, forming little circles. Continue the circular massage along the sides toward the back of your head.
  • Massage in the small circular motion from the back nape of your neck up to the crown of your head, ending in the front -where you started.
  • Only 10 minutes a day are needed and a daily consistent routine. (Twice a day is even better).
Weekly Deep Massage
  • Beat 2 eggs with 2 tablespoons of water. Apply to WET hair.
  • While egg mixture is on your hair, perform the basic circular scalp massage.
  • Leave mixture on for another 10-15 minutes. Rinse hair with lukewarm water, followed by Lustrous Henna Dry Shampoo Powder (made into a paste).
  • Cover hair with plastic cap.  Leave shampoo powder on hair for 5 minutes and rinse out.

Hot Olive Oil Treatment (HOOT)

Warm up 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil in the microwave for around 15 seconds. Pour into the palm of your hand and gently massage it into the hair -from scalp to ends- until complete saturated. Cover with a plastic cap and damp towel. Wait for at least 30 minutes. Rinse out using a mild shampoo like Lustrous Henna® Shampoo Powder. (You don’t really need to use a conditioner, but if you insist, try Imbue™ Natural Conditioner by Saba Botanical of USA.)

Scalp Treatment Recipes

The scalp should be gently cleansed of debris from hair treatments and products at least once monthly. A good natural scalp scrub needs to be applied with a GENTLE touch. Too harsh or heavy-handed of a massage can cause harm to the scalp by simply being too abrasive. So cleanse your hair and scalp naturally with a very gentle touch. This will help your scalp produce healthy hair.
Those recipes coming up next…

Split End Treatment and Prevention

Split End Treatment and Prevention –by L.J. O’Neal, writerSplit End Treatment. Must we always snip, snip, snip?

The most common ‘solution’ for split end treatment is to cut them. A snip here and there is certainly the quickest way to get rid of split ends, but, how about addressing the cause instead. Follow me here: if you can prevent split ends, you won’t have to cut split ends. So you can stop searching  for a split end treatment. You'll find that split end prevention is an excellent way to improve the overall condition of your hair. Split End Treatment and Prevention –by L.J. O’Neal, writerNow, if you’re a creature of habit and simply must trim your split ends, then please do so sparingly. Every 2- 3 months (seriously that’s all that’s needed for healthy, well-cared for natural hair) have a hair stylist trim only your split ends. Make sure your stylist knows that all you want is a light trimming of the ends (not a haircut) or you may start to wonder why your hair isn't getting any longer.

Split End Prevention

The following recipes are proven ways to get healthy hair and prevent split ends.

Split End Olive Oil Steam Treatment

Massage hair and scalp with olive oil. After 2 hours, steam hair for 30 minutes (wrap a towel dipped in hot water around head, avoiding face). Wash hair using a mix of Multani Clay Powder (Fullers Earth) and whole milk (use buttermilk for oily hair). Let dry naturally (olive oil will be absorbed. The next day, shampoo hair with a mild shampoo (suggest: Lustrous Henna Shampoo Powder or Imbue  shampoo from Saba Botanical).

Castor Oil and Egg Yolk -Hair Steam Recipe
1 or 2 egg yolks, 2 tbsp. cold-pressed castor oil, 1 tsp. vinegar and 1 tsp. glycerin. Beat until frothy and massage lightly into your scalp. Steam (Cover with a plastic cap; then rinse a towel in hot water, wrap around the head and let cool naturally). Rinse off. This conditioner makes hair thicker, shiny, soft and manageable.

Milk and Egg Yolk Hair Mask

A hair mask is a great way to prevent split ends: Whip together 2 egg yolks and 3/4 to 1 cup of milk (depending on hair length), until foamy. Apply on the hair. Cover your head with shower cap for 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. Do not use hot water.

Amla, Reetha, Shikakai and Egg Yolk Deep Conditioner
Make a paste by mixing 2 egg yolks, 2 tbsp. each of Amla, Reetha and Shikakai powder. Massage on the scalp and leave it for 30 minutes. Wash with a mild shampoo like Imbue Natural Shampoo Rinse a towel in hot water, wrap around the head and let cool naturally. Repeat it for 2-3 times a week.

Rosemary Leave-in Treatment

Mix 1 tablespoon of dry, crushed rosemary leaves into 12 ounces cup of water. Massage into hair from ends to the scalp. Don’t rinse out. Use 1-3 times a week, after shampooing or co-wash.

Oil Seal

Oil seal your hair by lightly massaging a very small amount of oil into your ends . Jojoba, lavender and rosemary are some oils easily absorbed and help prevent split ends. You don’t have to worry about having oily shine or hands.
Feel free to experiment and make your own variations of the above recipes that help to stop split ends. You’ll prevent split ends and love the results. Most important: you'll love those soft, supple and radiant locks!

Beautiful Hair LOVES these Naturally Healthy Ingredients

Beautiful Hair LOVES these Naturally Healthy Ingredients -by L.J. O'Neal, writerBeautiful Hair Loves Natural Cleansing

Reetha Fruit (Soapnut) contains saponins which are a natural surfactant; used for washing for thousands of years by native peoples in Asia as well as Native Americans. Besides containing excellent cleansing properties, it is known to keep hair and skin soft.

Amla Fruit is wonderful cleansing agent for both the skin and hair. It imparts luster to hair and protects from dandruff, also helps prevent premature graying. Amla stimulates growth of hair on the scalp, and strengthens the hair roots. Amla extract in the shampoo does not deposit any color on the hair and can be used by everyone alike. Amla extract helps replace the nourishment lost by hair gels, chemical hair color and hair spray.

Beautiful Hair Loves Natural Moisture

Wheat germ oil has emollient properties that add moisture and suppleness to hair. It helps eliminates excessive dryness. It contains vitamin E, a natural preservative that also adds moisture to hair. Additionally, it contains a B-vitamin complex: B1, B2, B3, and B6. These vitamins help increase circulation to the scalp and thicken hair.

Beautiful Hair Loves Hair Growth

Shikakai is known to stop hair loss and promote natural hair growth by nourishing the scalp at the glandular level. It also can strengthen hair roots. (This is good news for anybody transitioning from a chemical perm or relaxer to natural hair). It is rich in vitamin C and vitamin D, along with other nutrients that nourish the hair follicles and promote natural hair growth. It can be used by itself or mixed with other natural ingredients in powder form, along with water to form a paste that is then applied to the hair

Natural Hair Care Shampoo from Ancient Times

Natural Hair Care Shampoo from Ancient Times –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Natural Hair Care is Ancient and Effective

-not a “Revolutionary New Concept”

Today, it’s all too common to view infomercials on TV and online ads that promote 'natural' hair care products and promise to produce “revolutionary results” for all hair types. While these products might be effective, they usually come with 1) a relatively high price tag and 2) are not totally, 100% natural hair care products.

So, what’s wrong with truly ancient botanicals for natural hair care -if they've been proven to work- for literally centuries? Let’s ignore the modern hype and get back to what really works for healthy hair:

Lustrous Henna® Dry Shampoo Powder is a mixture of the finest ingredients: Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, Phaseolus Aureus, Sapindas Trifoliatus, Andro Pogon Muricatus, Accacia Concinna, Azaduacha Indica, Acalypha Hispida, Santanum Album, Lawsonia Inermis. These ingredients have been used since ancient times to cleanse, condition, moisturize and create strong, supple and healthy hair.

It is sulfate-free and preservative-free. The mixture of botanical ingredients permits gentle cleaning, nourishing and strengthening of follicles to grow healthy hair. Additionally, the herbal ingredients soften and treat the hair and deliver the following benefits: fights against dandruff, helps repair split ends, prevents hair loss, and helps cure scalp problems. It can be used on all hair types; men and women.

Natural Hair Care Shampoo from Ancient Times –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Natural Hair Care Products Need Not be Expensive

The current price per 100 gram package is only $6.99. This added benefit helps to maintain a regular natural hair care routine; all at a fraction of the price of so-called all-in-one shampoo ‘revolutionary’ hair care products that are not totally natural. Your healthy hair remains pampered and becomes the 'mane' attraction you desire.

Lustrous Henna® Shampoo Powder Healthy Hair Reviews

This henna shampoo leaves my hair with even more manageability and shine too.” –Christine L., South Pasadena, CA, USA.

“I use the shampoo often. The preparation is easy, as well as the application, both are administered by my beautician. She is also pleased with the results.” – Charlotte T., Pikesville, MD, USA.

Natural Hair -What is Lustrous Henna Hair Dye?

Natural Hair -What is Lustrous Henna Hair Dye –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Lustrous Henna® is an All-Natural Henna Hair Dye

-in a variety of natural hair shades
Once upon a time when modern day chemical concoctions were not available, henna was the desired herb use to beautify hair and skin, however, the choice of color was limited: bright orange-red. Yikes!
Today, there is Lustrous Henna® hair dye. It's a totally plant-based, natural hair dye. Lustrous Henna® is made by combining pure henna with natural botanical extracts via modern technology. It comes in various shades including a lovely shade of red hair color. No more bright red hair! Unlike traditional henna hair dye, Lustrous Henna® hair dye comes in more than ten natural hair color shades. It's much easier to apply and has a quicker dye release than traditional plain pure henna hair dye.
  • Lustrous Henna® contains numerous benefits: men and women can use it • blocks UV sun damage • Protects against split ends • Adheres to hair beautifully • Looks like your natural hair shade • color fades gradually and doesn’t create ugly white/gray lines with growth • conditions and protects hair, instead of stripping hair from the natural protein it needs to stay healthy and grow • contain herbs that have therapeutic values, will heal not harm hair like chemical dye • does not penetrate in the hair shaft to cause dry brittle, hair • makes hair glossy, shiny and of course, lustrous.
Lustrous Henna® contains the following ingredients (the order in which the ingredients are listed on each pack varies from one shade to another):  Lawsonia inermis, Indigofera tinctoria, Isatis tintoria, Coffea arabica, Rubia tinctoria, Bocopa monniera, Eclipta prostrada, Acacia concinna, Trigonella foenumgraecum.

Lustrous Henna® Does Not Contain Chemical Dyes

Chemical Dyes first damage the outer layer then fills the cavity and stays in the hair shaft, is also a permanent dye. Chemical Dyes thin the hair which reduces the strength of hair shaft whereas, Lustrous Henna®, thickens and nourishes your hair shaft while increasing its strength.
Lustrous Henna® should not be compared with Chemical Dyes effects, as they totally differ in the mechanism of dying. Lustrous Henna® gives coating on your hair shaft, and remains on hair shaft, as a Semi-Permanent Natural Dye. Lustrous Henna® hair dye is nontoxic and contains no chemicals, such as Para-phenlenediamine (PPD), ammonia, peroxide, or other synthetic dyes.
Natural hair is not only left with a radiant color but it's conditioned by the pure henna and other botanical ingredients. Lustrous Henna® hair dye also is appropriately named -because hair is conditioned- and the natural hair color looks and feels soft and supple.

Modern Living vs. Traditional Henna Hair Dye Application

Traditional henna application can take several hours, sometimes a full day to achieve the desired results. This is because you must wait hours for the hair dye to release after mixing the powder. Then wait longer after application of the hair dye for complete henna hair color results.
Even though pure henna by itself is a natural hair dye, solely using pure henna for hair dye produces a red hair shade that is not very attractive, on most complexions. Traditional henna application generally produces a bright, bright red hair! Actually, the hair dye produces a red-orange or orange-red color (take your pick). Do you really want bright red-orange hair?

Henna Hair Dye Application Made Easier with Lustrous Henna®

The traditional henna application is no longer a tedious waiting game. The quicker application process of Lustrous Henna® hair dye is a real time saver when compared to traditional henna application method. It usually takes -only about 90 minutes- from start to finish. Lustrous Henna® is easy to apply: just boil, mix and apply for beautiful color. Now that's pure henna application made easier.

Dandruff –What is It? How to Get Rid of it Naturally -by L.J. O'Neal, writer.Dandruff Defined

Short definition:  "Flaky dead skin that appears on the scalp, eyebrows or around the hairline, ears or nose; range from small and white to large, greasy and yellow.

Long definition: “Dandruff is the shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. Dandruff should not be confused with a simple dry scalp. As skin cells die a small amount of flaking is normal; about 487,000 cells/cm2 get released normally after detergent treatment. Some people, however, experience an unusually large amount of flaking either chronically or as a result of certain triggers, up to 800,000 cells/cm2, which can also be accompanied by redness and irritation.

As the epidermal layer continually replaces itself, cells are pushed outward where they eventually die and flake off. For most individuals, these flakes of skin are too small to be visible. However, certain conditions cause cell turnover to be unusually rapid, especially in the scalp. For people with dandruff, skin cells may mature and be shed in 2–7 days, as opposed to around a month in people without dandruff. The result is that dead skin cells are shed in large, oily clumps, which appear as white or grayish patches on the scalp.*

Because of these benefits, this pod was named "Shikakai" which translated as, "fruit for hair".

People used to soak fenugreek seeds overnight, and in the morning grind them into fine paste and apply them to the scalp for half hour for scalp treatment and removal of dandruff. The hair was then washed with Soapnut solution. The same paste was applied on the face at night before going to bed and then washed with warm water in the morning. This was known to prevent one from getting pimples, dryness and early appearance of wrinkles. It improved complexion and make one look younger.

In addition to being a proven dandruff treatment, these ancient herbs also are used for the following benefits:  Natural hair conditioning; Hair softening; Help fix hair split ends; Prevent hair loss; Helps cure itchy scalp problems.
