Wrightia Tinctoria (Sweet Indrajao) is named after a Scottish physician and botanist William Wright (1740 - 1827). Sweet Indrajao is a small, deciduous tree with a light gray, scaly smooth bark. From a distance, the white flowers may appear like snowflakes. The fruits are suspended and swing freely; long paired follicles joined at their tips. The hairy seeds are released as the fruit matures and splits. The leaves of this tree yield a blue dye called Pala Indigo.*
In addition to a wide variety of medicinal purposes, the wood of the Sweet Indrajao (Wrightia Tinctoria) tree has been used for all kinds of wooden turnery: cups, plates, combs, pencils, furniture legs, toys and more.
