Let Your Natural Hair and Beauty Shine

Little-girl-in-autumn.

Let Your Natural Beauty Shine

What natural highlights did your natural hair reflect as a child on a bright sunny day?

See? It’s easier than you might think to enhance your own natural beauty. Granted, for some of us it may take a little time to remember our own natural hair color if we’ve used chemical hair dye for a number of years. (smile!) However, it is possible to reclaim your natural beauty.

So what color was your natural hair? What natural highlights do you remember? Were you a rare, natural mahogany? Maybe a luscious brunette? Did your natural hair shine like black sable in the sun? Perhaps you were a gorgeous golden blonde? Did you sport radiant red hair? Do you remember your own natural beauty from your natural hair color?

You Want Your Natural Hair Color Back?

Well, you can indeed reclaim it by using a vegetable-based natural hair dye combined with extracts of natural botanicals. The main ingredient in this plant-based natural hair is pure henna. Now, it’s totally true that by itself, henna will only give your hair a red-orange color. However, by combining it with other natural herbs and other botanical ingredients, you can reclaim your youthful hair color, even if you now have gray hair that needs covering.

The mixing of these ingredients to the correct proportions has already been done for you and is lab certified to be 100% natural. The application process is not an “all day” event. In just about 90 minutes you can reclaim your natural beauty. Lustrous Henna® All Natural Hair Color Dye comes in more than 10 natural hair color shades: Blonde, Golden Blonde, Medium Blonde, Medium Golden Blonde, Red, Mahogany, Brown, Ash Brown, Auburn Dark Brown, Dark Brown, and Soft Black.

Bridget loves Lustrous Henna.Hello Syed,
I told you I would send you pictures of before and after. I hope these will help. Let me know if there's anything else that would help. Thank you again for all your kind help.

Hair Dye 'Chemical Beauty' Bothering You?

Chemicals in Hair Dye Are a Cause for Worry

chemical hair dye harmful!A recent study conducted at Yale University found a link between permanent hair dye and Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. One study for example, suggested that woman over the age of 50 who have used permanent hair dyes for ten or more years have an increased risk of breast cancer. Yet another discovered that users of permanent hair dyes are 2:1 times more likely to have bladder cancer. Other studies have linked the use of hair dyes to allergic contact dermatitis and skin disorders like eczema and to far more serious diseases like leukemia and ovarian cancer.

Hair salon and consumer hair coloring formulas use a high number of toxic chemicals in their formulas. In one analysis of popular brands and formulations, Consumer Reports found nearly 20 different ingredients that were classified as potential human carcinogens “Conventional dyes contain high level of toxic chemicals that can be absorbed through the scalp, where there is a rich blood supply. Then these chemicals circulate throughout your body, where they can be stored in the tissues and cause adverse health effects," says Marianne Marchese, ND, who practices natural medicine at a Woman's Time Clinic in Portland, Oregon.

The number of hair stylists, clients and consumers using home hair dye kits who suffer from allergic contact dermatitis is on the increase. Allergic contact dermatitis is a serious warning sign that hair dye “chemical overload” is affecting you.

Dermatologists in New Zealand have documented extensive studies pertaining to hair dye use and allergic contact dermatitis.

For photos and further details, read: Allergy to Paraphenylenediamine.

Try an Alternate Solution to Chemical Hair Dye 'Beauty'

Avoid allergic contact dermatitis and use an all-natural plant-based hair color dye to promote natural beauty. Fortunately, a nontoxic alternative to synthetic hair colorants does exist: Lustrous Henna ® 100% Natural Hair Dye.

Natural Hair -Great Tips that Work

Remember These Tips for Great Natural Hair?

Have you read our blog posts on natural hair tips? If you haven’t kept up, here are a few reminders:

Natural Hair -Great Tips that Work. www.lustroushenna.comHair Loss: Shikakai

Shikakai is known as, “fruit for hair”. Shikakai conditions from the hair root and is used as a mild cleansing shampoo in India; an excellent cleanser for natural hair. It’s very mild with a naturally low pH.  Shikakai is also known to promote hair growth by nourishing the scalp at the glandular level. It also can strengthen hair roots. (This is good news for anybody transitioning from a chemical perm or relaxer to natural hair that might be worried about hair loss).

However, it’s important to remember that, traditionally, prior to washing the hair with plants containing Saponin (like soap nuts or the healthy hair growth plant, Shikakai), the user massages the scalp at the hair root with coconut oil or castor oil.

Hair Loss and Split Ends Treatment:
Amla and Shikakai Combination

Amla (Indian Gooseberry) is used as an ancient treatment to maintain healthy hair. Amla especially is renowned for its healing effect on the hair (it nourishes dry scalp, stops hair loss and makes it manageable) and nowadays is used in spas.

Massage the scalp with coconut oil or castor oil. Then:

Combine 2 tablespoons each of Amla Powder and Shikakai Powder; add enough (room temperature) water to make into a paste. Apply to hair. Cover with plastic cap for approximately 10-15 minutes. Rinse out thoroughly.
This is an excellent remedy for split ends.

Regular Maintenance Required for Great-Looking Natural Hair

If we rarely attempt to provide proper care for our hair, then we shouldn't expect miraculous results from minimal efforts. A regular routine must be established and adhered to if we want to minimize hair loss and promote hair growth. Over time, this regular routine will become a very simple process as we accustom ourselves to it.

1.     Daily hair care.
2.     Weekly or biweekly: mild shampoo and regular conditioning.
3.     Monthly deep conditioning.
4.     Use natural, herbal products that are proven to stop hair loss and promote hair growth.
5.     Clip split ends every 2-3 months as necessary, but use extreme caution: don’t cut off your hair growth!

A word of caution about clipping split ends:

To grow longer hair, NEVER clip more than 1/8”-1/4” (inch) per month. If we do, we’ll literally be cutting away our new hair growth! The reason is that most hair grows about 1/2” (inch) per month, totaling six (6) inches a year. Do the math. This is totally within our control. A tiny snipping of split ends is all that is really necessary, especially if we want to see visible hair growth results.

Bottle Gourd Plant (Luaki) Benefits for Hair

Lauki Bottle-gourd-largeAbout the Lauki (Bottle Gourd) Plant (Lagenaria siceraria)

Lauki is a Hindi word for the bottle gourd plant. The botanical name is Lagenaria siceraria (synonym:  Lagenaria vulgaris). It has been cultivated in India since early times.

Lauki (Bottle Gourd) has been a staple in the Indian kitchen and in Indian cuisine for centuries. Its use is even mentioned in the Bible book of Jonah. Now, that’s a long, long history. However, in modern western culture, its medicinal and cosmetic uses are virtually unknown – even though it’s better known as calabash.

While Lagenaria siceraria  juice has been ingested since ancient times for a variety of medicinal uses, it can also be applied externally to the hair. It’s believed to prevent gray hair and hair fall; also thickens and improves overall condition of hair, causing it to become healthier.

Line art womanLuaki (Bottle Gourd) Hair Treatment Recipe

(for external application)

1 small bottle gourd (Luaki)  (washed and peeled)
or 4-5 ounces of bottle gourd (Luaki) juice
3-4 tablespoons of Pure Amla Powder
1-2 tablespoons of sesame oil or olive oil

Extract some bottle gourd juice by (blending a bottle gourd and then strain it to extract the juice); then mix thoroughly with Amla powder and oil. Apply it onto hair, starting with hair roots to ends. Cover hair with plastic cap. Keep this mixture on your hair for 30-60 minutes; wash it out gently with a sulfate-free, 100% natural shampoo powder. (Lustrous Henna Shampoo Powder recommended).

Some women in India massage Lauki (Bottle Gourd) juice onto the scalp nightly.

Internally -Use Lauki (Bottle Gourd) with Extreme Caution

There a quite a few benefits to the body that are believed to result from ingesting Lauki (Bottle Gourd). From being a natural appetite suppressant: treating constipation, digestive and urinary tract disorders; balancing liver function; treating insomnia and nervous disorders. It has been used as a cardiac tonic and the list goes on.
Recently it’s been highly recommended to consult an Ayurvedic physician before using Lauki (Bottle Gourd) juice internally. Excessively bitter juice had actually been reported to have cause death by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in New Delhi1. Therefore, the user really needs to be totally familiar with the plant and how to prepare it, before ingesting it.

According to the subject, Calabash2 (Lagenaria siceraria), (on the Wikipedia website), the following is stated:
“However, the plant is not normally toxic when eaten and is safe to consume. The excessively bitter (and toxic) gourds are due to improper storage (temperature swings or high temperature) and over-riping.
To avoid poisoning, it is advised to:
  1. Taste a small piece of the calasbash gourd to make sure it is not unusually bitter, before making juice.
  2. Discard all excessively bitter calabash gourd or juice.
  3. Not mix calabash juice with other juices, such as that of bitter gourd, so as not to mask calabash's taste if it has gone bad.”
Best to Use Externally for Hair and Avoid Worries

Lagenaria sicerari when used externally as a hair and scalp treatment, along with other great Ayurvedic botanicals will bring healthy benefits –without worry.

Saba Botanical of USA and Syed's Message

About Saba Botanical of USA’s Mission

The following can be found on the “About Us” page on the Saba Botanical of USA website. The message is so important that I believe it needs to be repeated on the Lustrous Henna Blog.

Our goal is twofold:
1.    To educate people to avoid products containing harmful and toxic chemical ingredients.
2.    To bring you the products formulated with highly effective, natural and organic ingredients for your body.

Syed’s Message: My Story, My Hair and My Advice

“Once I wrote the following.

The more I learn about plants, the more I believe this truth:

"Although we all have to live through some ailments and other health problems from time to time, nature has created a remedy for every health problem in plants; whether it is fresh produce, dried herbs, essential oils or extracts. The key to beautiful health is using pure botanical ingredients derived from nature. The concept of natural beauty incorporates a philosophy based on the mystery of the therapeutic values and vital energy of plants.”

My black hair started to turn gray in my twenties. I felt that I was still too young to show gray and started using commercially available chemical dyes to hide my gray. After a while my scalp started to itch and my skin turned red where the dye was applied. As the time went by, it started to get worse with each dye application. Even the mildest of the dye I could find on the shelf caused a reaction to my scalp. My hair started to thin and bald spots started to develop, my thick hair was gone. I was struggling to hide my gray.

Someone told me that there is a "natural" product called Kali Mendhi (commonly called:  “Black Henna”). Hoping this would solve my problem, I bought a pack and applied it to my hair (not knowing this would turn into my worst nightmare). The very next day, blisters started appearing all over my scalp and side burns, my face swelled up and my eyes were almost shut. I was in agony and had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. This was a frightening experience. Later on, I find out that Kali Mendhi (commonly called:  “Black Henna”) contained Paraphenylene-diamene (PPD), which caused this reaction.

While going from shelf to shelf of hair coloring products from one store to another, I could not find a product that was free of Ammonia, Peroxide and PPD or similar chemicals. Health food stores did carry some henna based coloring products but their results were so marginal, they were not worth the time and money.

I resorted to pure henna, which I feel is the greatest herb that exists on Planet Earth. The use of henna revived my hair and scalp. My hair started to look healthy again. The only problem with pure henna was: my gray hair turned reddish/orange, which was sort of scary. I started to get used to it, but always wished my hair was black (again).

I knew that there were millions of people out there that truly need a natural hypoallergenic hair dye.
One day, I met with an executive of AMA Herbal Labs with my idea for a totally all natural henna based hair color dye that could be packaged and produced in a variety of natural shades. He said, "We would be happy to take this project," (not realizing how intricate this project would be). Within a year they produced a product which I named Lustrous Henna®. However, this initial product was no different than the weak products already selling in the health food stores.

Three years went by without any encouraging news. Then the second version of the product came out. The results still were not very encouraging. I was about to give up, when it finally “clicked” and they were really able to greatly improve on this product. Thus, I call this, the third generation of Lustrous Henna® that you can purchase from us now.

Lustrous Henna® is definitely worth bragging about: it does not contain PPD, Ammonia, Peroxide or toxic chemicals. It is a 100% natural hair dye. Nature still has the answer to all our needs, as we discovered and we benefit from it.

Lustrous Henna should be used by everyone who needs to dye their hair. It is safe and healthy.

It is well-known throughout India that the seeds of this flowering herb are quite powerful. Allergic Contact Dermatitis from Synthetic Hair Dye Can Be Avoided.

Why Avoid chemical hair dye?Allergic Contact Dermatitis and PPD

Paraphenylenediamine (PPD) is a chemical substance that is widely used as a permanent hair dye. It is a leading cause of allergic contact dermatitis from application of popular mixes of hair dye. It may also been found in textile or fur dyes, dark coloured cosmetics, temporary tattoos, photographic developer and lithography plates, photocopying and printing inks, black rubber, oils, greases and gasoline.

Avoid Allergic Contact Dermatitis Caused by PPD in Chemical Hair Dye

The solution for avoiding Allergic Contact Dermatitis is to avoid using synthetic hair dyes altogether. Most contain PPD, ammonia, peroxide and other harmful chemicals. As noted above, results through continued use can be quite detrimental.

Dermatological Solution for Avoiding Allergic Contact Dermatitis

The solution given by most dermatologists across the globe is to use an all-natural hair dye such as pure henna that works like a semi-permanent color dye. but without chemicals. The problem with using pure henna dye is that it only gives one color: bright red-orange. Most people don’t care for pure henna color. Most people are satisfied with covering their gray hair or coloring their hair with their own natural shade of hair color.
Many men and women have experienced successful results using Lustrous Henna® 100% all Natural Hair Dye. It comes in more than ten (10) natural hair color shades. The shades are a result of mixing pure henna extracts with the extracts of other botanical plants. All shades of color are totally natural and therefore, don’t contain any harmful chemical substance. Allergic Contact Dermatitis can be avoided since allergy reaction to pure henna is extremely rare. Lustrous Henna® 100% all Natural Hair Dye is a combination of ancient traditional hair dye combined with modern green living.
