Black Hair Color for Men and Women. Get it Back –Naturally!

born with black hairBlack Hair from Melanin, Eumelanin

There are two ways to get black hair color naturally. The first is to be born with lots of melanin and eumelanin, since the more you have, the darker your hair will be. Obviously, if you were born with black hair and still have it, you can be thankful for your lustrous hair.

Hair color pigmentation comes from two types of melanin, eumelanin and pheomelanin. Red hair comes from pheomelanin. The amount of brown or black eumelanin results in blonde, brown or black hair color. Blond hair comes from low concentration of brown eumelanin. If the level is higher, it causes hair to turn brown. High amounts of black eumelanin produce black hair color. Low amounts of eumelanin result in gray hair.

get your black hair back naturally.Black Hair from Natural Plant-based Hair Dye

Unfortunately, melanin levels can change over time, so a person's black hair color can change naturally. Additionally, a person can have more hair follicles of more than one color.

The second way to get black hair color is to use a 100% all natural, plant-based, hair dye. (Since pure henna produces a red color, mixing with extracts of pure indigo and other botanical extracts to achieve black hair color. Pure henna mixed with other natural ingredients will produce a variety of shades).

Black hair is the shiniest of all hair colors. If you weren’t born with this beautiful color or have lost some of it due to graying, you can still get your color back. Lustrous Henna® hair dye is 100% all- natural and comes in 'soft black’ hair color for all men and women.

Now, you can still have shimmering, beautiful hair color with Lustrous Henna® hair dye!

Sharing an Experience:

I am writing to congratulate you on a superb natural product that I will continue to use on my hair forever!! I had a horrible encounter with an over-the-counter hair dye that contained PPD. I had an emergency room visit and the fear of never being able to cover my grey.

I have jet black hair and it really bothered me to not be able to have the choice of bringing back its natural color state. I then found your website and decided to try your Lustrous Henna. Believe me- at first I was extremely scared, thinking that it would cause another horrific health event- But I did the patch test and all went well, so I applied the paste and I can't believe the results!!!!!!!!!

Not only am I NOT IN FEAR OF USING YOUR PRODUCT- but my hair looks absolutely amazing!! I can't thank you enough for creating this fantastic organic product for those of us that can't tolerate and choose not to use the toxic chemically overloaded hair dyes. I will be a customer for life and intend to spread the word!! A thousand thank you's!!!!!!!

Warmest Wishes,
 Ally Shade

Hair Follicle Damage Prevented with Nature.

prevent follicle damage.Damaged Hair Follicle Causes Hair Loss

Countless men and women are affected by hair loss caused by heredity, medical condition and natural factors. Unfortunately, the hair loss of many of other individuals could have been prevented -by avoiding products applied to the hair containing harsh chemicals that damage the hair follicle. Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) and other synthetic ingredients can potentially cause major damage to hair and health.

Hair Follicle and Hair Shaft Damage –As You Age

Cover Gray Hair Naturally.Naturally as people age, the inclination is to use measures to retain a youthful look.  Melanin is the pigment that gives the hair color. Since they lose melanin with age, many individuals use stronger chemical hair color. The final hair color is produced when the hair dye interacts with the melanin. Gray hair is usually harder to dye by this measure because of the dramatically lowered melanin level.

Additionally, permanent chemical dyes can damage the hair follicle and hair shaft, since it becomes thinner and finer as we age. Therefore, it is better to avoid chemical dyes altogether and us a natural, plant-based (vegetable) hair dye to cover gray hair. Henna hair dye is the only alternative hair dye recommended by the FDA for natural hair loss prevention.

Love Your Hair -Naturally!Prevent Hair Follicle Damage Naturally

Dermatologists have recommended the use of all natural pure henna for hair to prevent potential scalp allergy and hair loss caused by the overuse of chemical hair color dyes. Pure henna coats the hair naturally and actually conditions the hair. With Lustrous Henna®, the addition of other natural vegetable-based ingredients produces an all-natural hair color in various shades such as: golden, red, mahogany, brown, dark brown and soft black. Hair Loss Stopped Naturally.

Chemical hair dye applicationHair Loss Caused by the Wrong Hair Dye

Permanent hair dye products containing para-phenylenediamine (PPD), combinations of hydrogen peroxide and ammonia, as well as other chemical ingredients have proven to be extremely harmful to one’s health; especially through overuse. Unfortunately, synthetic hair dye has cause major damage to the hair shaft and scalp, resulting in hair loss.

Why can hair loss occur after using permanent hair dyes? Permanent hair dye penetrates the cuticle of the hair, damaging it. The hair shaft is exposed to hydrogen peroxide and ammonia. Chemicals cause overlapping of cuticular seates to lift from the hair cortex, thereby leading to rapid loss of amino acid. By removing the proteins that build the structural strength, the hair shaft is weakened. The chemical damage results in an easily fractured hair shaft and eventual hair loss.

Problems associated with chemical hair dye:

  • Dull, brittle, unmanageable hair; cosmetically unacceptable.
  • Irreversible damage to the protein structure and fracture of the hair shaft.
  • Epidermal type of melasma on the forehead and neck; black circle around the eyes due to sun sensitization of the skin.

www.sababotanical.comStop Hair Loss Naturally

Dermatologists want potential patients to be aware of the risks involved in using chemical hair dye. Since the damage can be irreversible, why risk it?

Use what many dermatologists recommend: pure, all-natural henna. Use a 100% Natural Plant-based Henna Hair Dye available in over 9 natural hair color shades. Lustrous Henna® is customer-tested and proven to stop hair loss and damage caused by unsafe chemical hair dyes.

Dear Saba Botanical, I have been using regular hair dyes containing PPD for years and never had a problem, then all of a sudden I had a severe allergic reaction.  I had spent several months recovering from this in and out of hospitals, on steroids, antibiotics and IV medications.

As a result from this reaction I have lost most of my beautiful black thick hair due to scar tissue left behind. After months of my awful ordeal, being a middle aged women I began to see gray hair but knew I could never ever use hair dye again and wasn't sure what to do.  I ended up trying every kind of hair dye I could find not containing PPD. Unfortunately, nothing was covering my grays but instead always grabbing a light red tint on my black hair.

Hallelujah!  I was just about to give up after trying so many different products on- line and I found your web site containing Lustrous Henna hair color.  I only ordered one pack at the time not with high expectations but tried it out and it worked!  My grays were covered and my black hair thicker and had a beautiful shine to it.

To all the women and men allergic to hair dye and want a all natural healthy product for your hair - Looking for a solution, Please Trust Me, Lustrous Henna Rocks!

Itchy Skin? Dry Hands? Try a Natural Treatment.

2 handsItchy Skin and an Old Superstition

There is an old superstition about itchy hands. If your right hand itches, money is coming your way -but don’t scratch it because the money will stop. If your left hand itches, you’ll be paying out money…so it’s okay to scratch the itch!

The superstition might be humorous, but if you really do have an itchy skin problem, it’s no laughing matter. All you desire is –relief from dry skin and itchy hands!

Hand-mud-mask-saba-botanicalDry Skin Treatment for Your Hands

Oils, lotions and natural body butters help protect your hands and dry skin. However, to pamper your dry skin, add moisture and suppleness, using an ancient natural treatment that works wonders. The following treatment not only prevents your hands from aging or being abused, but it works equally as well, if your dry skin extends -to your feet.

Note: You will need an assistant.

Hand Massage and “Mask”

  1. In a basin. add warm water solution mixed with Pure Reetha Powder Organic Wash. Soak both hands in the water solution 5-10 minutes. Rinse; then gently pat dry.
  2. Make a paste with warm water and 2-3 tbsp. of Face and Body Mask Skin Treatment (sold by Saba Botanical of USA).
  3. Have assistant apply mask (paste) to each hand. After 15-20 minutes, remove mask by gently rinsing with clean water.
  4. After removing mask, if you want to proceed with nail manicure, do so.
  5. Finish by having your assistant gently massage hands with cold-pressed castor oil or your favorite natural skin oil; pat dry. Be gentle!

Daily Protection from Itchy Skin

  • Use a natural protective barrier for the thin skin covering your hands, like natural cold-pressed castor oil, an excellent emollient to help cure dry skin.
  • Wear vinyl or rubber gloves when washing dishes, housecleaning where your hands will come in contact with water, chemicals or other liquids.
  • The sun and dry weather can cause excessively dry skin, so protect your hands.
  • Use the “Hand Mask” treatment weekly.

No More Itchy Skin!

There’s no need to explain away itchy hands with an old superstition. Take care of your hands daily and protect them. They can become a naturally beautiful part of your body.

DeniseThe Face and Body mask is hands down my favorite product. Many of you know that I’m a spa brat. You can rub me down with just about anything at a spa- mud, seaweed, chocolate, blueberries- I’ve done it all.

This is one of the best facial masks I have ever tried. It mixes with water and apply the paste. I left it on for about an hour and then washed off. You can feel it tightening on your face and your face just lifting. It is the cheapest facelift you will ever get! After I washed it off I noticed an immediate glow and smoothness to my face. My skin seemed to be much more even-shaded and just wonderful. And, since I only used it on my face, I only used needed a small amount  of the package. So... I could get 3-4 facials; that is my idea of home economics! -Denise

Natural Hair, Conditioned and Radiant –from an Ancient Plant.

Ayurvedic-hairWant Natural Hair, Conditioned and Radiant from Natural Hair Dye?

Learn about the Henna Plant.

The henna plant is larger than most of us would probably imagine. It actually grows is size from the height of a tall shrub of 6 ½ feet to a small tree of close to 20 feet high (2-6 m). As we note in the picture, the henna plant has numerous branches with spiny tubes attached to delicate flowers with white or red stamens. It contains capsules of fruit with approximately 30-50 seeds.*

Where is the henna plant grown, you ask? It's native to various regions of Africa, Southern Asia, and Northern Australasia. The highest natural dye content is produced in tropical and tropical arid zones. Like most plants, henna flourishes during rainy season. The henna plant also loves the heat. It grows in temperatures of 95˚-115˚F (35˚-45˚C). It’s cultivated various countries in Africa and the Middle East. However, the Pali district in India cultivates and produces the most henna in today’s marketplace. Lawsonia_inermis_

Henna or Hina (Lawsonia Inermis) is known by a variety of names: Al-Khanna, Al-henna, Jamaica Mignonette, Mehndi, and Mendee. The lawsone, primarily concentrated in the petioles of the leaves, cause staining or dying. However, they must be crushed in order for the lawsone molecules contained within the leaf, to release (when mixed with a mildly acidic liquid, such as found in lemon juice, strong tea, etc.).  Once released, the lawsone gradually bind to the outer layer of the proteins in the skin or hair, thus staining or dying it.

A Word about "Henna Hair".

Fortunately, we don’t have to search for and crush henna ourselves. It is commonly traded as a dried powder from milling and sifting the henna leaf. As a powder, it’s also known as Mendhi and is not only used for hair dying, but natural hair conditioning as well. Traditionally, for “henna hair”, the henna mix must be soaked for 6 to 12 hours and rest on the hair for 3 to 4 hours or the lawsone in the henna won’t work. “Henna hair” is naturally a bright red-orange color and not a desired shade of hair color in modern society. Is there a natural henna alternative?

Love Your Natural Hair. Avoid "Henna Hair"!

The history of using henna to dye skin (including body art), natural hair, fingernails- even leather, silk and wool, goes back to the Bronze Age. There is an Indian court record of its use as a hair dye during the 4th century. With such a background and history, it is no wonder that many men and women have no fear using henna for their natural hair or to transition from harmful chemical dye products. Fortunately, Lustrous Henna® is easier to apply than the traditional application method. Lustrous Henna® all natural hair dye releases in about an hour. It’s much easier to apply, too. This is a real time-saver!  Lustrous Henna® comes in many hair color shades, so no more worries about "henna hair".  Users are extremely pleased with the radiant results of shimmering highlights.

A Customer Testimonial

I-dream-of-gia-www.sababotanical.comAs a performer, it is essential that my hair always looks it best. As a woman, it is even more important that my hair stays healthy and beautiful. I recently developed an allergy to 'traditional' chemical hair dyes and read that fellow Middle Eastern (Belly) Dancers followed in the footsteps of Cleopatra and treated their hair with henna. And so I did.   And I was amazed! Not only did the beautiful henna from Saba Botanical give me the color promised, it also brought my chemically treated, dried, lifeless hair back to health! No longer stiff and lifeless, my silky hair now shimmers in the light with low and highlights beaming through the rich color.

Thank you SO much for a wonderful product that makes me healthier and my hair more beautiful!

Allergic Contact Dermatitis from 'Black Henna' Dye–Can Be Deadly.

Henna-plant-with-flower. www.sababotanical.comAllergic Contact Dermatitis from PPD 'Black Henna' Dye
  • Paraphenylenediamine (PPD)¹ in hair dye is known to cause severe skin allergies such as: permanent scarring, marked redness and swelling of scalp, face and eyes, eyelids may completely shut, allergic contact dermatitis may spread throughout body and can even (in rare instances) result in death.
  • Severe PPD allergy can also result in contact urticaria and anaphylaxis on rare occasions.¹
  • PPD: “This compound is used in almost every hair dye on the market, regardless of brand. The darker the colour, usually, the higher the concentrations. Some of the so-called 'natural' and 'herbal' hair colours, while ammonia-free, contain PPD. Some products sold as henna also contain PPD added, particularly so-called 'black henna'. In many cases, PPD causes allergic contact dermatitis and can cause scarring. PPD should never be applied directly to the skin in its pure form or mixed with anything else.”¹
'Black Henna' Ingredient Lists Below are ingredient lists and quotes from randomly selected henna and chemically mixed products marketed as 'Black Henna' Hair Dye:

Black_henna_PPD_pkg“Black henna is a henna based powder hair dye for colouring gray hair in black. India’s largest selling henna based powder hair dye.” Ingredients: Herbal Henna, Barium Peroxide, Citric Acid,

Paraphenylenediamine (PPD)¹  “We offer the finest Black Henna Hair Dye in standard as well as customized packing to meet the requirements of the clients. Our Black Henna Hair Dye can be used for any type of hair…” Ingredients Used In Black Henna Hair Dye:  Henna (Lawsonia Inermus), Amla (Emblica Officinalis), Shikakai (Acacia Concinna),

Para Phenylenediamine (PPD)¹, Barium Peroxide, Citric Acid, Magnesium Carbonate.

Black-henna-hair-dye-ppd pkgAbout the Popular Misnomer: 'Black Henna': The 'Black Henna' name is misused for skin (tattoo) and hair dye products, are not only derived from the plant, but a combination of chemical dye mixed with natural, usually low-grade plants made into a black powder or liquid dye.
  • 'Black Henna' is not pure indigo or 'black indigo'.
  • The indigo plant is NOT BLACK.
  • Pure indigo is a green plant (Indigofera tinctoria) and the green leaves are dried, crushed and powdered. When used properly with pure henna, it will turn hair to a black color.
  • If indigo is mixed with chemicals dyes, or even henna that has been compromised by chemicals, including PPD, then it is not pure indigo or the so-called, 'black henna'. It is a harmful chemical hair dye.
  • 'Black Henna' is not pure, nor is it pure henna.
  • Pure henna is NOT BLACK.
  • Pure henna is a green plant (Lawsonia inermis) and the green leaves are dried, crushed and powdered. When used alone it will turn the hair an orange-red color. If it is properly used with pure indigo, the hair will dye to black.
  • Even if pure henna is mixed with para-phenylenediamine (PPD), 'coal tar', it is no longer pure henna, but is a harmful chemical hair dye that can cause severe allergic contact dermatitis and even be deadly.

Allergic Reaction Can Be Avoided: Stay Away from “Compound Henna”

beautiful hair. www.sababotanical.comAllergic Reaction from a "Natural Henna" Product?

"Compound Henna": We’ve seen it online or on the shelves of drug stores, department stores and even at “professional” beauty supply stores. On the 'natural' henna box, there is an image of a beautiful woman with long, radiant hair that captivates us. We imagine that we are the beautiful model in the picture with a mass of tresses, cascading down our own shoulders.

At this point, we have a decision to make: grab the box and buy the “image” or, we could choose to look past the image on the box and try and find the ingredient label, of this so-called ‘natural’ henna hair dye. What we find (or don’t find) may be surprising.

We normally don't think of the possibility of severe allergic reaction, when we think of 'natural' henna dye, but now is the time to change our thinking.

beautiful hair 2. www.sababotanical.comWhat is “Compound Henna” Hair Dye?

It may surprise you to know that not all henna dye mixes are completely herbal or all-natural. “Compound henna” generally is composed of lower quality henna that contains lower dye content and is mixed with harmful additives and synthetic dyes that can cause severe allergic reaction. Even if they don’t contain PPD (para-phenylenediamine), ammonia or peroxide, they may contain harsh metallic salts, alcohol and synthetic dyes. Since the henna is mixed with synthetic dyes and ‘who knows what else’, the mixture is referred to as: “Compound Henna” hair dye.

Perhaps, you’re wondering, “How can such products be sold without an ingredient label?” It does seem mysterious. However, the answer is that in the countries where the henna is grown, they might not be required to list the ingredients on the label. Once exported, the U.S. importer is not required to re-label the product.

Additionally, the FDA* states, “Because the FPLA does not apply to cosmetic samples and products used exclusively by professionals--for example, for application at a salon, or a booth at a fair or boardwalk--the requirement for an ingredient declaration does not apply to these products.”

That is why purchasing henna mixed with unknown additives and synthetic dyes can be a costly and potentially dangerous experience.**
  • Know What is In Your Henna Hair Dye Package.
  • It is absolutely essential to be very selective when choosing henna hair dye.
  • Avoid Allergic Reaction.
  • Avoid "Compound Henna".
  • Be Wise: Use Lustrous Henna 100% All Natural Hair Dye.
  • Lustrous Henna is NOT “Compound Henna”.

Natural Dyes for Hair- An Option Worth Considering

Radiant Hair reflects a person's state of health, as well as creates that beautiful look that we all want to keep forever!

Radiant Hair. www.sababotanical.com
Have you ever thought about natural dyes as a hair color option?
Did you know that you natural dyes will also bring out highlights, add shading or cover your gray hair?

Natural Dyes for Hair Color -An Option Worth Considering

Using a natural product, such as Lustrous Henna hair dye is very safe and beneficial to your natural hair than a conventional hair dye. Conventional hair dye may completely damage your hair and scalp with prolong use.

Avoid Harmful Conventional Hair Dyes. www.sababotanical.comWhy Avoid Conventional Hair Dyes?

"Conventional dyes contain high level of toxic chemicals that can be absorbed through the scalp, where there is a rich blood supply. Then these chemicals circulate throughout your body, where they can be stored in the tissues and cause adverse health effects," says Marianne Marchese, ND, who practices natural medicine at a Woman's Time Clinic in Portland, Oregon.

A recent hair color study conducted at Yale University found a link between permanent hair dye and Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. One study for example, suggested that woman over the age of 50 who have used permanent hair dyes for ten or more years have an increased risk of breast cancer. Yet another discovered that users of permanent hair dyes are 2:1 times more likely to have bladder cancer. Other studies have linked the use of hair dyes to allergies and skin disorders like eczema and to far more serious diseases like leukemia and ovarian cancer.

Such study results should not be surprising when one considers the number of toxic ingredients used by both salon and consumer hair color formulas. In one analysis of popular brands and formulations, Consumer Reports found nearly 20 different ingredients that were classified as potential human carcinogens. The suspects included such heavy oncological hitters as coal tar derivatives, para-phenylenediamine (PPD), (which can also cause blindness), bezenediamine dihydrochloride, and aminonline dihydrochloride. Other hazardous ingredients include, ammonia, peroxide and lead, a heavy metal commonly found in products that gradually color hair over time with many repeated applications.

Fortunately, a nontoxic alternative to synthetic hair colorants does exist:

Lustrous Henna® 100% natural hair dye is an innovation in hair color treatment.

About Highlighting by Chemical Processing of Natural Hair

“Hair highlighting/lowlighting refers to changing a person's hair color, using lightener or hair color to color strands of natural hair in varying sizes. There are four basic types of highlights: foil highlights, hair painting, frosting, and chunking. Highlights can be done in natural or unnatural hair color. Hair lightened with bleach is considered permanent.”
Using chemical process to achieve this effect is unsafe and dangerous to natural hair color. It can also cause skin irritation and other adverse effects.

Avoid harmful chemical hair dye.Basic foil highlighting

“Foil highlighting is the process of using foil to separate strands of hair which will be lightened from strands of hair which will remain its natural color.[1] The process is done by applying lightener to the hair that has been woven and separated using an applicator brush. The foil is then folded as to protect the hair and surrounding area during the "processing" time. This is the amount of time required to achieve the desired results. In highlighting hair hydrogen peroxide mixed with pigment is used to change the color of the strand.[2] This process is also used in applying "lowlights" to the hair. In this process, hair dyes are used to create strands of hair that are darker than the natural hair color. The foils are often used to separate hair strands for high and low lights during the same process.” (PPD allergy, chemical compounds alert, skin irritation alert**)

Hair painting

“Hair painting is a method of highlighting natural hair color that may be done at home. Hair painting methods are often permanent and employ a simple hair-painting brush. Hair painting is also used with temporary and semi-permanent types of brushes. While brushes are commonly used in hair painting, one may also use combs to paint or highlight thin-sized strands of hair. Balayage is a technique referring to free-form painting on clean, styled hair. The results are subtle and more natural looking than foiling or chunking.” (PPD allergy, chemical compounds alert, skin irritation alert**)

Frosting

“Frosting refers to the process of free-hand lightening the tips of the hair, and is generally performed on men with short hair.” (PPD allergy, chemical compounds alert, skin irritation alert**)

Chunking

“Chunking refers to a style of highlight which is larger and thicker than a traditional highlight, rather than to a method of creating highlights.[3] Chunky highlights are generally offered in a wider variety of bold natural colors, as well as a large number of artificial, or unnatural hair color, used to create more contrast, rather than subtle texture, as in traditional, thinner highlights.” (PPD allergy, chemical compounds alert, skin irritation alert**)

According to leading dermatologists, more variety of colors mean more chemical compounds* that are potentially dangerous to the hair and hair shaft.

*Italics ours. ** Most synthetic and many so-called "natural" hair dyes contain PPD (para-phenylenediamine, a dangerous chemical contained in numerous hair dye products.) It has been banned in Europe.
