According to Wikipedia, the history of using henna to dye skin (including body art), hair, fingernails- even leather, silk and wool, goes back to the Bronze Age. There is an Indian court record of its use as a hair dye during the 4th century.

With a such a background and history, it is no wonder that many men and women have had no fear using henna as an all natural hair dye. Unfortunately there are two (2) major issues most people in modern society have with the traditional pure henna hair dye application method:

The Henna Plant

The henna plant is larger than most of us would probably imagine. It actually grows is size from the height of a tall shrub of 6 ½ feet to a small tree of close to 20 feet high (2-6 m). The highest natural dye content is produced in tropical and tropical arid zones. Like most plants, henna flourishes during rainy season. It also loves the heat. It grows in temperatures of 95˚-115˚F (35˚-45˚C). It’s cultivated various countries in Africa and the Middle East. However, the Pali district in India cultivates and produces the most henna in today’s marketplace.

From Henna Hair Color to Black -A Quest Leads to Invention.

Black Hair to Premature Gray Hair to Henna Hair Color to Black Hair

Syed was only in his early twenties when his black hair started turning to premature gray hair. He believed that this premature gray hair was hurting his image. Desiring his natural hair, Syed began his struggle to keep his formerly youthful appearance. At the time, using an all-natural hair dye was not even a thought. Like countless other men and women, he used chemical dyes to hide the premature gray hair. Mix all powders together. Take just a couple tablespoons of this mixture and add enough water to make a paste. Apply to face and neck. Work gently in circular motion when applying paste, especially to nose and chin area. Leave on for 15 minutes, and then gently wash off with cool water. Save dry mixture in air-tight container or zip-lock bag and store until needed. Important Note for all recipes: Please avoid contact with area around the eye. Also, do a small patch test to make sure you are not allergic to any ingredients, prior to apply mask to entire area.

Hi, my name is Krista and I just wanted to share my experience with using Lustrous Henna.

 

I have naturally curly fine hair that is now 40%gray. I had been dying my hair with the traditional dyes for years. Last year my hair was severely damaged by having a professional put a color remover on my hair to remove old, too dark dye.After the application, my hair was what they call "bubble gum" hair in the industry.
