The Power of the Flower: Lawsonia Inermis, The Henna Story Continues. Pt. 1

Just when you thought you knew all about the henna plant, henna body art and even Lustrous Henna® 100% All-Natural Hair Dye… the Henna story continues.

www.SabaBotanical.com Henna Plant Botanical Review

Botanical name: Lawsonia inermis. Common name(s): Henna, Mehendi, Menhdi (Hindi). Plant Family: Lythraceae (Crape Myrtle family).

For centuries, henna has been a symbol of festivity in India. It’s stain is used as body art, especially associated with marriage ceremonies in north India. It is known in the West Indies as “Egyptian privet” or “reseda”. It’s mentioned in the Bible as “camphire”. Its flowers are some of the most fragrant on earth. It is native to Asia and North Africa, but also widely cultivated in tropical countries. www.SabaBotanical.com

The leaf of the henna plant contains a dye called, “lawsone” or “hennotannic acid”. Lawsone is primarily concentrated in the leaves of the henna plant. The lawsone extract from the henna plant has been used for literally centuries to dye the hair, skin, fingernails, leather and wool. The chemical reaction between lawsone and the protein keratin in skin and hair results in a strong permanent stain. In our next blog post, we’ll highlight the beauty of the flower and its benefits.

Another Lustrous Henna testimonial ®
Dear Syed,
I Love Lustrous Henna. I've been meaning to write to you about your excellent product. I used Lustrous Henna this weekend and it was by far the best experience and result I've had from a henna-based product. The creamy formula was easy to apply and rinse out (unlike so many other henna products I've tried), and the color is vibrant. I achieved much better coverage of my grays than with any other product and I intend to keep on using it. Also, I'm going to bring your pamphlet to a local health food store and praise Lustrous Henna to the max! Thanks so much for a great product, Syed. I found that with my hair I needed about 3/4 of a package for one application, and will use the remainder for touch-ups. I hope this finds you well --- it was so pleasant chatting with you. All the best,
Doretta W.
