When we think of the beauty of the tropics, flowers usually paint a vivid picture in our mind’s eye. The hibiscus flower is one that has been highly admired for its beauty for centuries. It is used as a hair decoration for young girls and women of all ages; also, as an ornament in the home and numerous places all over the tropics.

Beautiful Flower Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, more commonly known as the Chinese hibiscus, China rose and Shoe flower, is an evergreen flowering shrub native to East Asia. 

The flowers are large, generally red in the original varieties, and firm, but generally lack any scent. Numerous varieties and hybrids are available, with flower colors ranging from white through yellow and orange to scarlet and shades of pink, (and some reds so dark they appear to be black). Flowers have both single and double sets of petals.*

 The Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is the national flower of Malaysia. According to the American Hibiscus Society, this is the tropical hibiscus that is the state flower of Hawai’i and is regularly observed by and presented to tourists visiting the US state. Hawaiian hibiscus are seven known species of hibiscus regarded as native to Hawai’i.

Herbal Face and Neck Mask Recipes

Skin Care Recipes Using Lustrous Henna Face & Body Mask Powder, Multani Clay Powder, Orange Peel Powder and Soapnut (Reetha Fruit) Soak.

Easy as 1, 2, 3: Mix, Apply, Rinse 

All Skin Types

Orange Juice Mask

2 tbsp. Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 cup fresh orange juice

 Mix Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask and orange juice. Stir in honey and let the "pudding" simmer until thickened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and cool. Spread the mixture over your face and neck and let dry for 20 minutes. Rinse off gently with cool water.

 Lustrous Garden Mask

1/2 papaya
1/2 teaspoon lemon or lime juice
1 teaspoon honey
1 tbsp. Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask

Mash papaya, then blend the ingredients together. Apply to clean face, leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off gently with cool water.

 Dry to Normal Skin

Strawberry Mask

1/2 cup very ripe strawberries
3 tbsp. Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask
Enough water to make paste, (if needed)

Mix strawberries and Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask together to make a paste and apply it to your face, Leave on for 30 minutes, then rinse off gently with cool water.

Extra-Dry Skin 

Avocado Moisture Mask for Dry Skin.

1 ripe avocado
4 tablespoons plain yogurt
1 tbsp. Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask

Puree avocado and blend with yogurt and Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask. Apply mixture to face. Leave on for 30 minutes. Rinse gently with cool water.

 Oily Skin

Strawberry Mask for Oily Skin

1/2 cup very ripe strawberries
3 tablespoons Lustrous Henna® Multani Mitti Clay
Enough water to make paste, (if needed)
Mix strawberries and Lustrous Henna® Multani Mitti Clay together to make a paste and apply it to your face, Leave on for 30 minutes, then rinse off with cool water.

 Acne Skin and Pimples 

Acne Mask  
(deep cleans skin and unclogs pores)
¼ c. Lustrous Henna® Multani Mitti Clay
¼ c. Lustrous Henna® Orange Peel Powder
2 tablespoons oatmeal powder (oatmeal ground in blender)
water
 Mix all powders together. Take just a couple tablespoons of this mixture and add enough water to make a paste. Apply to face and neck. Work gently in circular motion when applying paste, especially to nose and chin area. Leave on for 15 minutes, and then gently wash off with cool water. Save dry mixture in air-tight container or zip-lock bag and store until needed.


Important Note: Please avoid contact with area around the eye.  Also, do a small patch test to make sure you are not allergic to any ingredients, prior to apply mask to entire area.

Lustrous Henna® Skin Care Recipes by Saba Botanical of USA -Part 1of 2

Face and Body 

Skin Care Recipes Using Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask Powder, Multani Clay Powder, Orange Peel Powder and Soapnut (Reetha Fruit) Soak. 

Easy as 1, 2, 3: Mix, Apply, Wait, Rinse*

Multani Clay Face Mask: Mix Multani Clay Powder with water -enough to make a soft paste. Apply to face (avoid eyes). After 10 minutes, gently rinse off. You can also mix it with rose water; or mix with equal parts of orange juice and honey; or yogurt;

Moisturizing Paraffin Bath for Hands.

4 ounces paraffin
1/4 cup wheat germ, extra-virgin olive oil or almond oil
1 tbsp. Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask

In a small saucepan, heat the first 2  ingredients together until liquid. Mix in Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask until well-blended. Cool to comfortably warm and "paint" each hand or dip both hands at once into the mixture. Wrap in plastic wrap. Leave on 10 minutes; then peel off.

 Full Body Mask


2 tablespoons Lustrous Henna® Orange Peel Powder
5 tablespoons Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask
2 tablespoons honey
¼- ½  cup hot water (enough to make paste)

Mix all ingredients to form a paste. Slather on (especially on back and chest areas) and leave for 15-20 minutes. Gently rinse off.

Glow Mask

1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon warm milk
1 teaspoon honey
2 tbsp. Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask
Mix together. Apply to face and throat, hands or feet. Leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Softening Emollient Mask

2 tbsp. Lustrous Henna® Face &  Body Mask
1 egg yolk
1/3 cup avocado, peeled and mashed
1/3 cup milk

Pour Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask  in small container. Beat the egg yolk until fluffy, then add and mix. Add milk and avocado, mixing thoroughly with the yolk-powder mixture. Apply to face and leave on for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water to remove.  Re-rinse to close pores with cool water. Gently pat dry.
If you prefer a very basic "recipe", you can always mix any of the powders with plain water (as noted in the previous posts).However, to step your spa treatment up a notch, try using different recipes for different areas of body. Be creative!


 Important Note: The amount of ingredients contained in the above recipes are approximately enough to do smaller areas of the body (enough for face and neck area –except where noted). It's perfectly okay to add a little more or use a little less of any ingredient. To use for hands and feet, you will need to increase recipe proportionately with the area you want to cover. Please avoid contact with area around the eye, if doing a face mask. For full-body mask, please follow the procedure in the previous posts. Also, do a small patch test to make sure you are not allergic to any ingredients, prior to applying mask to entire area.

Men & Women: Have a Saba Botanical Lustrous Spa Party At Home! (Part 2 of 2)

Begin with the feet, next the hands and finish with the face. 
The Foot Mask Pedicure instructions were included in our previous post. Mask color will depend on what you mix in with the powders. If you only use water, then color will range from beige to orange-peach color.

For Hand Mask Manicure

Exfoliate and cleanse: Soak hands in warm Lustrous Henna® Soapnut (Reetha Fruit) Powder/water solution. Pat dry.
Apply mask: Apply to entire hand up to wrists. After 20-30 minutes, remove mask. Rinse hands, then pat dry. After removing hand mask, if you want to proceed with nail manicure, do so. When totally dry: Gently rub hands and nails in favorite natural skin oil; pat dry. Be gentle!

For Face Mask Facial

Exfoliate and cleanse: Wash face with Lustrous Henna® Soapnut (Reetha Fruit) Powder/water solution. Pat dry gently.

Apply mask: Select enough mask powder to cover face and neck (if desired). Apply to face and neck, avoiding the delicate area around your eyes.  Leave on until completely dry (around 30 minutes). Go ahead and add cucumber slices to cover eyes, if desired.

Why cucumber slices? They soothe and cool the eyes. They’re also help lighten the skin, thus aid in lightening dark circles under eyes (usually the temporary kind caused from staying up too late, staring at a computer screen or just plain allergies).

Wash mask off with water and soft cloth. Be careful not to scrub the face or neck area while washing off mask. (Excessive scrubbing can cause damage to skin). Lightly pat dry. Be gentle!

The Face and Body mask is hands down my favorite product. Many of you know that I’m a spa brat. You can rub me down with just about anything at a spa- mud, seaweed, chocolate, blueberries- I’ve done it all. This is one of the best facial masks I have ever tried. It mixes with water and apply the paste. I left it on for about an hour and then washed off. You can feel it tightening on your face and your face just lifting. It is the cheapest facelift you will ever get!
After I washed it off I noticed an immediate glow and smoothness to my face. My skin seemed to be much more even-shaded and just wonderful. And, since I only used it on my face, I only used needed a small amount  of the package. So... I could get 3-4 facials; that is my idea of home economics!

Ready for great fun and some lustrous pampering? Invite a couple of friends over and have your own Saba Botanical Lustrous Spa Party in the privacy of your own home. 

Here’s How to Set Up Your Home Spa Party

Invite a few friends over. Small is best: 2-6 guests. If more than that, you might “kill” the fun and guests could become uncomfortable. In your invitations, ask guests to bring a comfy robe, turban and open slippers (optional, but lots of fun). You provide towels, washcloths, dishes, access to bathroom and kitchen sinks, etc.
Guests can mix their own masks, it’s very simple.

Appeal to the senses and create a spa-like atmosphere:  

Music: nature sounds like the ocean, trickling brooks, soft classical music or some cool jazz. Lightly scented candles or essential oil simmering in water on stovetop or oil burner are aromatic and heighten the senses. Cocktails, appetizers or other finger foods will also create a fun and memorable experience

Make sure you have enough Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask packs available:  Suggestion would be -1 pack per guest if planning on a face mask, hand mask manicure and foot mask pedicure. 

If you want to add a couple of great-smelling Lustrous Henna® Orange Peel Powder packs, that’s an option too. . At only 4.00-4.25 per pack, it’s a quality gift with a small price tag.

Have enough containers for each guest: A small bowl for the facial and manicure and a large basin or dishpan for the foot mask pedicure. If these are in short supply, you can always take turns and alternate treatments –this makes sure that you and your guests are occupied with an activity throughout the party.

Our suggestion: Begin with the feet, next the hands and finish with the face.

For Foot Mask Pedicure
 
Foot workout: Guest takes a golf ball and rubbing it around the foot, concentrating on the arch and sides; or set a smooth river rock on carpeting and walk on the stone for a few minutes. If you have enough smooth rocks, you can also add them to a basin filled with warm Lustrous Henna® Soapnut (Reetha Fruit) Powder/water solution.  Rub your feet back and forth on the stones. All workouts are soothing and massage the feet. 

Exfoliate and cleanse: Fill large dishpan, bucket or whatever will fit your tootsies with warm Lustrous Henna® Soapnut (Reetha Fruit) Powder/water solution. Soak feet for several minutes. Using a pumice stone (or similar item), scrub calluses off heels. Rinse, then pat dry.

Apply mask: Apply to entire foot up to ankles. After 15-30 minutes, remove mask by rinsing feet in same container, replaced with clean water. After removing foot mask, if you want to proceed with toenail manicure, do so. Gently rub feet in favorite natural skin oil; pat dry. Be gentle!

What Aloe Vera ISN’T:

Nowadays, it seems that every product that wants to appear healthy and beneficial, include the words “Aloe Vera” on its packaging. Even the tissue companies found a way to add it to their labels! Therefore, we need to pause for thought and THINK for a second…do we really need a miniscule drop of Aloe Vera in our tissue?

On a more serious note, when we are searching for pure Aloe Vera or products containing pure Aloe Vera, we really need to be careful and read the ingredient labels. We might end up with something that may even cause us harm. One well-known company claims to sell 100% Aloe Vera Gel.  After reading the ingredient label, you might be shocked to see that it is not 100% Aloe Vera Gel at all, but : (company) Aloe Vera, 100% Gel. Does this make a difference? You bet it does! This product is a gel that contains Aloe Vera and many harmful chemical additives. One ingredient was even banned in Europe for being a known carcinogen!

A “Recipe” that Promotes Healthy Hair Growth

I just wanted to tell you how much I LOVE the Lustrous henna.  I've been using it for about 2 years now, and I will never go back to the chemical dyes, for many reasons.

Getting my long hair dyed in a salon cost me well over $100. When I tried to be more economical and do it myself, I would still have to buy two bottles of dye, not to mention processing agents, and special conditioners, and then color safe shampoos and conditioners for after.  I have used color safe products and non-color safe products with the Lustrous Henna, and there is no difference, it doesn't really fade. And at $6.99 per pack (I only need 1 pack for my hair), the price can't be beat.

Also, even when I went to a salon, my hair would fade to an ugly, mustardy brown after only 2 weeks to a month.  With Lustrous Henna, I dye my hair about once every 3 months, and even when it fades, it fades to a very nice, dark shade (I use the black and the mahogany).  In fact, the only reason I know it's faded at all is because my grays start showing.  Which brings me to another point.  My grays are interspersed throughout my hair, and the henna dyes them a lighter shade than the rest of my hair, which just ends up looking like really pretty highlights. And the fact that it does absolutely NO damage to my hair is the icing on the cake.


I love this stuff, please never stop selling it!  I will never go back to chemical dyes ever again.

The Power of the Flower: Aloe Vera (pt. 1 of 2)

The Aloe Vera Plant IS:

Aloe Vera is a flowering plant. It has been called “the lily of the desert” and “the plant of immortality”.  Its medicinal and healing properties have been known for over 4000 years. It was used by ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Chinese civilizations. Cleopatra used it to purify her skin. Alexander the Great used it for his soldiers’ wounds.

Aloe Vera is a stemless or very short-stemmed succulent plant with yellow flowers, growing to 24–39 in tall. The small serrated leaves are thick and fleshy, green to grey-green, with some varieties showing white flecks on the upper and lower stem surfaces. The beautiful yellow flowers are produced in summer on a spike up to 35 in tall. Aloe Vera grows in arid climates and is widely distributed in Africa, India and other arid areas.

As a topical medicinal treatment, Aloe Vera extracts have antibacterial and antifungal properties that may help in the treatment of skin infections and inhibit the growth of fungi.
