Q. My hair is dry, Will Lustrous Henna® work on my hair?

A. Lustrous Henna® is not only color hair. Its conditioning properties help bring body, life and vibrancy to dry, damaged hair. Lustrous Henna® enriches hair with essential oil, thus giving hair natural radiance.

Q. Can I use Lustrous Henna® before or after a perm (or relaxer)? 

A. You may, but you must do a strand test first, since chemically restructured/treated hair does not react to Lustrous Henna® in the same way as normal hair. The chemicals may react with Lustrous Henna® in unexpected ways. In addition, Lustrous Henna may loosen the curl of a perm. Avoid using Lustrous Henna® application on freshly permed or relaxed hair. Let the perm or relaxer settle for a few days.

Q. I use PPD base chemical hair dye. I’d like to switch to a healthy, nontoxic hair dye like Lustrous Henna®. Will this work? Do I need to wait until the chemical comes off? 

A. You do not need to wait for your present chemical comes off. You can start Lustrous Henna® application any time.

Q. I don’t have any gray hair. I have darker hair, what will Lustrous Henna® do for me? 

A. A great number of people of all ages, especially with red, brown, dark brown and black, hair, apply Lustrous Henna® to beautify their hair. Q. How much Lustrous Henna we need for one application?

Q. How does Lustrous Henna differs from regular plain Henna? 

A. Regular henna is just grounded powder of leaves from plant of Lasonia Inermis that give only one color: an orange-red. Lustrous Henna differs in many ways.

• It has a very quick hair dye release compared to hours with plain henna.
• It is still all natural yet combined with other nutrient-rich plants and other botanicals that condition the hair.
• It comes in a variety of hair color shades.

Q. How long Lustrous Henna lasts? 

A. 3-4 weeks the color will start to fade. The best part is since Lustrous Henna fades gradually, no  ugly distinctive color difference shows with growth, like it does  with a chemical dye. Depending on the type of hair and how many times a person shampoos, in most people it completely fades away in 6-12 weeks.

Q: Can I see actual color on my hair immediately after the application? 

A: You will see the color, but the full color will appear in 24 to 48 hours. The color gets darker within this time period and the actual coverage is established after this period. However, the color you get immediately after the application is still beautiful and lustrous. It will only get better over the next couple of days.  

Q. I have lot of gray hair, will I be able to cover gray? 

 
A. Gray hair is usually coarser and dryer then the other type of hair, as they tend to lose natural oils. Up to 20% gray can be covered easily by any shade of Lustrous Henna’s semi-permanent natural hair color dye. Individuals with more than 20% gray may require two or three applications to get a desired shade. Once you achieve the desired shade, it is normally easy to maintain afterwards.

Q.   How does Lustrous HennaⓇ natural herbal hair color dye differ from synthetic chemical hair dye?


A.  Chemical Dye:  Most synthetic chemical dyes contain harsh chemicals like  PPD and bleaching agents, such as ammonia and or peroxide which damage the outer most layer and create capillaries in the hair shaft to deposit hair dye inside. The next application again does the same to hair shaft. This results in loss of strength, causes roughness over time, gradually damage hair and scalp permanently.


Natural Herbal Hair Color Dye:   Lustrous HennaⓇ colors hair by coating the hair shaft. It provides thickness to hair and color sticks as a semi-permanent color. The next application again does the same and results in an increase in strength and shine to hair. Q. What is PPD?


A: Paraphenylenediamine - PPD (a coal tar derivative) is a main coloring agent in most  chemical hair dyes. This coal tar derivative is also used with other names in chemical dyes.


Q. What are the allergic reactions PPD can cause?


A: Allergic reactions caused by hair dye containing PPD:  In mild cases, usually only involves dermatitis to the upper eyelids or the rims of the ears. In more severe cases there may be marked reddening, swelling and blistering of the scalp and the face. The eyelids may close completely and allergic contact dermatitis reaction become widespread.

About the misnomer: “Black Henna”:

“Additionally, the name is misused for other skin and
hair dye, such as black henna*, which does not derive from the plant.”

• "Black Henna" is not pure indigo or "black" indigo. Pure indigo is a green plant (Indigofera tinctoria) and the green leaves are dried, crushed and powdered. When used properly with pure henna, it will turn hair to a black color. However, if it is mixed with chemicals dyes, or even henna that has been compromised by chemicals, including PPD, then it is not pure indigo or the so-called, "black henna".

• “Black Henna is not pure, nor is it pure henna. Pure henna is a green plant (Lawsonia inermis) and the green leaves are dried, crushed and powdered. If it is properly used with pure indigo, the hair will dye to black.  If it is mixed with a very toxic chemical called, para-phenylenediamine (PPD), “coal tar”.

• PPD is known to cause severe skin allergies such as: Permanent scarring, marked redness and swelling of scalp, face and eyes, eyelids may completely shut, allergic contact dermatitis may spread throughout body.

• PPD*: “This compound is used in almost every hair dye on the market,
  regardless of brand. The darker the colour, usually, the higher the
  concentrations. Some of the so-called "natural" and
  "herbal" hair colours, while ammonia-free, contain PPD. Some
  products sold as henna also contain PPD added, particularly so-called
  "black henna." In many cases, PPD causes allergic reaction, and
  can cause scarring in some people. PPD should never be applied directly to the skin in its pure form or mixed with anything else.”
