Lustrous Henna Soft Black:

Excellent ordering service. Very prompt and efficient. Highly recommend. The product is of high quality and we have been using it for years....very satisfied.”        - M. Mirpuri, Hong Kong, China.

“All products I have purchased from Saba Botanical were exactly as advertised. I love Lustrous Henna in dark brown & soft black. Customer service is excellent.” – Customer from Hemet, CA

Lustrous Henna Brown

“Colors are rich and true. Hair is soft silky shiny and beautiful.”  -Customer from Vista, CA, USA

“I mixed this with a few tablespoons of henna and a couple tablespoons of lemon juice and got a beautiful dark chestnut color. All of my greys were covered. I have natural kinky African American hair. The coverage was great and my hair did not feel dry and brittle after this great natural colourant.” –D. Daniel, Joshua, TX,  USA

“I had a salon apply the henna to my hair and it turned out great. Most of the heavy grey was covered and it gave my hair much needed body. Thank you. I recommend not doing this process at home if you are at all tentative - I feel going under the dryer at the salon made a big difference in setting the color in my hair.” –Lake in the Hills, IL, USA

Lustrous Henna Mahogany

“I would like to thank Saba Botanical for making such a wonderful product. I have been using Lustrous Henna hair color for last 2 months and m already impressed with the results. I have almost 35% grey hair and have been using hair colors for the last 3 years. I was so upset about using those harmful chemicals (peroxide and ammonia) but had no other choice. 2 months ago while searching on the internet, I came across Lustrous Henna by Saba Botanical. I read all the reviews which were very impressive. I thought of giving a try and I’m so glad that I tried it. The results were amazing. It covered, if not all, but definitely 90% of my grey hair. I was so happy and the color lasted for more than 1 month. Finally I found a natural and great remedy for my grey hair. Saba Botanical, thanks again for the wonderful product.” –M. Bazaz, Corpus Christi, TX, USA

“Received the item FAST (to Australia) = awesome customer service. Finally had the chance to try the products out last weekend. I'm approaching 50 years old and was looking to cover the grey hair on my crown. Previously used Sur--a B---s-l with good coverage results, but some damage to hair. Lustrous Henna has improved the condition of my hair which is most defintely a bonus, but didn't cover the grey as well as I'd hoped ... unfortunately. Will try a second dose/application as recommended.”

Gray Hair –What Really Causes It?

Warning: You may have to apologize to a few people after reading this.

natural gray hair treatment. www.sababotanical.comWhy Gray Hair –The Easy Answer

When melanin (pigment) is reduced, our hair color turns gray. If we no longer have any melanin (pigment), our hair turns white.

Why Gray Hair –The Detailed Answer

Melanin gives our hair its natural color. Melanin is spread into the middle layer of the hair shaft or cortex. The type of amount of melanin distributed give hair its natural color.
Even though there are a vast variety of hair color shades, they are derived by only two types of pigment. Our hair color is made up of dark (eumelanin) and light (phaeomelanin).

Gray Hair from Babyhood to Adulthood

While in the womb, hair is white until the production of melanin quickly begins. Special pigment cells called melanocytes make up melanin. These cells are at the skin’s surface at the follicles from which hair grows. As hair develops, melanin (pigment) containing keratin is injected into the hair cells through the melanocytes. This process is what produces hair color in various hues. Keratin is protein that is essential for healthy hair, skin and nails.1
As we get older, our chance of going gray increases, as melanin decreases. We hit age thirty, then forty, then fifty, then…well, you know what happens.

natural gray hair treatment for men. www.SabaBotanical.comGray Hair –Other Causes

Age and genetics are not the only causes of gray hair. Scientists have determined that there are other factors that can cause gray hair and even accelerate its production. These factors can actually change the pigment of hair; causing it to be lighter or darker.

Intrinsic factors: genetic defects, hormones, body distribution, age.

Extrinsic factors: climate, pollutants, toxins, chemical exposure.
In 2009, scientists in Europe described how hair follicles produce small amounts of hydrogen peroxide. This chemical builds on the hair shafts, which can lead to a gradual loss of hair color.2

Surprise! Surprise! It’s not really the kids that cause our gray hair! It’s not totally the boss or a crazy spouse either. For most of us, it’s simply the natural cycle of life, our heredity and our environment. So, now is a good time to apologize -to all those folks you thought were the real source of your gray hair.

Telogen Effluvium -One Temporary Cause of Hair Loss

Telogen_effluvium-is temporaryTelogen Effluvium Defined*

Telogen: The resting phase of the hair cycle that usually lasts approximately three months.

Telogen Effluvium: The second most common form of hair loss. Androgenetic alopecia is the most common. A condition that causes an increased number of hairs to enter the telogen or resting phase. The additional shedding usually occurs in response to various stresses such as emotional trauma, post-pregnancy and illness, major surgery, and certain medications. Telogen effluvium can be delayed (occurring a few months after the stressful incident) or chronic (unresolved).

Telogen Loss: Loss of hair during resting phase of hair or "natural" loss.1
Some hair loss conditions go by the name "effluvium," which means an outflow. Effluviums characteristically affect different phases of the hair growth cycle.2
According to the American Hair Loss Association, Telogen effluvium (TE) “is a poorly defined medical condition and unfortunately very little research has been done to understand TE. TE happens when there is a change in the number of hair follicles growing hair. If the number of hair follicles producing hair drops significantly for any reason during the resting, or telogen phase, there will be a significant increase in dormant, telogen stage hair follicles. The result is shedding, or TE hair loss.

Telogen Effluvium appears as a diffuse thinning of hair on the scalp, which may not be even all over. It can be a bit more severe in some areas of the scalp than others. Most often, the hair on top of the scalp thins more than it does at the sides and back of the scalp. There is usually no hair line recession, except in a few rare chronic cases.”

Hair Growth Explained

“Hair follicles on the scalp do not continuously produce hair. They cycle through a growth stage that can last two or more years, then regress to a resting stage for up to two months before starting to grow a new hair fiber again. At any time on a healthy human scalp, about 80% to 90% of the hair follicles are growing hair. These active follicles are in what is called the anagen phase. That leaves up to 10% to 20% percent of scalp hair follicles in a resting state called telogen, when they don't produce any hair fiber.”2

Visit_Your_DermatologistTE is Temporary: Maintain Your Healthy Hair Care Naturally

Whatever form of hair loss TE takes, it is fully reversible. The hair follicles are not permanently or irreversibly affected; there are just more hair follicles in a resting state than there should normally be.2

Do you usually have healthy hair? Have you experienced recent hair loss in spite of efforts to take care of your normally healthy hair? If you've experienced stressful conditions described above, it might be Telogen Effluvium affecting your healthy hair. Please visit your medical doctor or dermatologist, to be sure. In the meantime, continue to care for and maintain your otherwise healthy hair with proven natural hair care products.

Olive Oil and Multani Clay -What are They Good For?

olive oil great for hair. www.sababotanical.comOlive Oil and Multani Clay -a great combination for hair.

Multani Clay*  (Fullers Earth) is great for drawing dead cells and excess oils from the skin. It also stimulates circulation to the skin. It absorbs bacteria, toxins and reduces water loss.  The skin is then rejuvenated and becomes smooth, soft and supple. An aged method for controlling excess oil in the scalp. Wash hair and impurities are removed but the hair still retains its natural moisturizers; thus hair is left soft and radiant.

Multani Clay Powder (Fullers Earth)has also been used as a natural treatment for acne and even to alleviate the pain of arthritis. It can be used as a face mask or full body mask (10-15 minutes). The only caution is that the multani clay not be left on the skin for an excessive amount of time because it could cause over drying.

great hair. www.sababotanical.comMultani Clay Powder (Fullers Earth) and Olive Oil Recipes for Hair

Damaged or Dull Hair Treatment: Moisten hair with warm water. Massage generous amount of natural oil into hair (refined sesame or apricot, shea nut oil, olive oil, etc.) Cover hair with plastic shower cap (or plastic wrap like “Saran” wrap) and a towel. Leave on for a minimum of one hour.

Next: apply a muddy paste of Multani Clay Powder (Fullers Earth) mixed w/water to hair and scalp. Leave on for 30 minutes. Using warm water, completely rinse the mud from hair and scalp.

Shampoo with a mild shampoo (Imbue or So Natural shampoo from Saba Botanical). Apply a small amount of refined oil (except olive oil due to scent) to damp, towel dried hair and scalp. Comb through with a wide tooth comb. Let your hair dry naturally.

Split End Olive Oil Treatment:

Massage hair and scalp with olive oil. After 2 hours, steam hair for 30 minutes (wrap a towel dipped in hot water around head, avoiding face). Wash hair using a mix of Multani Clay Powder (Fullers Earth) and whole milk (use buttermilk for oily hair). Let dry naturally (olive oil will be absorbed. The next day, shampoo hair with a mild shampoo (Imbue or So Natural shampoo from Saba Botanical).

Super Quick Dry Shampoo:

Divide hair into sections and fluff a little Multani Clay Powder through each section. Rub in well and leave on for 10 minutes. Brush out thoroughly with a clean brush. The Multani Clay will absorb most of the oil and dirt from hair. (Can be done if it’s inconvenient to do traditional shampoo).

* Multani Clay is also known as: Multani Mitti and Fullers Earth.

Hair Color by Lustrous Henna -How to Apply.

Hair Color by Lustrous Henna -General Process of Application- Reminders
Time Process Note
Once you take out desired amount of Lustrous Henna® powder in a bowl, heat some water almost boiling (we do not have exact amount of water measurement as water absorption may differ from one batch of herbs to other), (approximately heat one cup of water for 100 grams of powder) Start adding water to the powder while mixing the power to make a workable creamy paste. As soon as the paste is cool to touch, It can be applied to the hair. The paste should not be left out for longer than 10 minutes. This will have a negative effect on color.

In case, Lustrous Henna® paste is left without applying for 20 minutes or more, It should be discarded, as it has lost its coloring properties.
Wet or Shampoo your hair for best results with mild shampoo like: Imbue™ Nurturing Shampoo.
10 Once the paste is ready to use, you may add extra water if desired. Apply this paste to your hair with hands with gloves on or comb and brush. Spread it evenly all over the hair. Then cover your hair with shower cap(supplied) and leave it for 60 minutes. You may add some extra water for convenience in application. You must cover your hair with shower cap to avoid premature oxidation.
10 + 60 = 70 Warm up dye paste on your hair with hair dryer or blow dryer for 1-3 minutes while cap is still on. Wait for 15 minutes,( keep the cap on). This is a very important part of process. The cap must be on during the process.
70 + 20 = 90 Again warm up your hair with dryer for 1-3 minutes while cap is still on. Wait for 10 to 20 minutes and rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water. This is equally important for fixing of dye on your hair.
The paste also can be left on hair for a total of 2 hours to achieve a deeper shade of hair color. You may shampoo your hair using a Saba Botanical recommended shampoo. Hair color will initially appear lighter than actual shade. The hair color will slightly darken to actual shade, after 24-48 hours of oxidation.
Lustrous Henna® - Neutral
Process of Application

Got Dandruff? Treat it Naturally.

Get rid of excessive dandruff. www.SabaBotanical.comDandruff. What is It?

First, let's define dandruff simply: "Flaky dead skin that appears on the scalp, eyebrows or around the hairline, ears or nose; range from small and white to large, greasy and yellow.

Now let’s get more specific: “Dandruff is the shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. Dandruff should not be confused with a simple dry scalp. As skin cells die a small amount of flaking is normal; about 487,000 cells/cm2 get released normally after detergent treatment. Some people, however, experience an unusually large amount of flaking either chronically or as a result of certain triggers, up to 800,000 cells/cm2, which can also be accompanied by redness and irritation.

As the epidermal layer continually replaces itself, cells are pushed outward where they eventually die and flake off. For most individuals, these flakes of skin are too small to be visible. However, certain conditions cause cell turnover to be unusually rapid, especially in the scalp. For people with dandruff, skin cells may mature and be shed in 2–7 days, as opposed to around a month in people without dandruff. The result is that dead skin cells are shed in large, oily clumps, which appear as white or grayish patches on the scalp, skin and clothes.”**

Home Remedies Using Natural Herbs for that Flaky Dead Skin

Home remedies* include: following a healthy diet that includes flax seed oil; daily scalp massage increases blood circulation; weekly oil treatment to scalp, washing off in shower after 10-15 minutes will help avoid excessive dry, dead skin; frequent  mild shampoos that include any or all of the following Ayurvedic herbs:

Natural herbs for natural beauty.Fenugreek: Seeds contain essential oil that contains 40 different valuable compounds. People used to soak fenugreek seeds overnight, and in the morning grind them into fine paste and apply them to the scalp for half hour for scalp treatment and removal of dandruff. The hair was then washed with Soapnut solution. The same paste was applied on the face at night before going to bed and then washed with warm water in the morning. This was known to prevent one from getting pimples, dryness and early appearance of wrinkles. It improved complexion and make one look younger.

Soapnut: Indian name Reetha fruit is also called Soapnut, as it contains natural soap. Beside excellent cleansing properties, it is known to keep hair and skin soft.

Amla: A wonderful cleansing agent for both the skin and hair. It imparts luster to hair and protects from dandruff and excessive dead skin, also helps prevent premature graying. Amla stimulates growth of hair on the scalp, and strengthens the hair roots.

Shikakai:  A pod that’s considered a superior cleanser for "lustrous long hair" and has been reported as "promoting hair growth and preventing dandruff". Due to the benefits of these home remedies, this pod was named "Shikakai" which translated as, "fruit for hair".

Rely on Ancient Home Remedies Using Natural Herbs

100% natural herbs including Ayurvedic botanicals for hair, face and body
* If the scaling from dandruff is greasy and yellow and does not respond to shampooing, etc. then it may be time to call your doctor; you may have seborrhea dermatitis and need more aggressive treatment your flaky dead skin. The above home remedies can still be used in conjunction with your doctor's approval.

Question. www.SabaBotanical.com1. Q: How does natural dyes for hair color differ from chemical hair dye?

A: See Mechanism of Hair Dying

Chemical Dye:

Most of the chemical dyes contain bleaching agents, such as ammonia and or peroxide which damage the outer most layer and create capillaries in the hair shaft to deposit hair dye inside. The next application again does the same to hair shaft. Resulting in: loss of strength, causes roughness over time, gradually damage hair and scalp permanently.
Natural Dyes:

Natural dyes for hair coloring such as, Lustrous Henna®, colors hair by coating the hair shaft. Lustrous Henna provides thickness to hair and stay stick as semi-permanent color. The next application again does the same and results in an increase in strength and shine to hair. The herbs from Lustrous Henna® provide nourishment to the scalp, keeping it healthy.

2. Q: What is PPD?

A: Para-Phenylenediamine - PPD (a coal tar derivative) is a main coloring agent in most of chemical hair
dyes. This coal tar derivative is also used with other names in chemical dyes.

3. Q: What are the allergic reactions PPD can cause?

A: Allergic reaction caused by PPD hair dye in mild cases usually involves dermatitis to the upper eyelids or the rims of the ears. In more severe cases there may be marked reddening, swelling and blistering of the scalp and the face. The eyelids may close completely and allergic contact dermatitis reaction becomes widespread.

4. Q: How much Lustrous Henna® do I need for one application?

A: See: Quantity of Lustrous Henna required for different length of hair:

5. Q: How does Lustrous Henna® differ from regular plain Henna?

A: Regular henna is just grounded powder of leaves from plant of Lasonia Inermis which give only one
color. Lustrous Henna® differs in many ways. See Lustrous Henna® vs Plain Henna for detail.

6. Q: How long Lustrous Henna® lasts?

A: 3-4 weeks the color will fade. But the best part is since Lustrous Henna® fades gradually, does not
show ugly distinctive color difference with growth as with a chemical dye. Depending on the type of hair and how many times a person shampoos, with most people, it fades away in 6-12 weeks.

7. Q: Can I see actual color on my hair immediately after the application?

A: You will see the color, but the actual color will appear in 24 to 48 hours. As the color gets darker within this time period the actual coverage is established after this period. However, the color you get immediately after the application, still be admired by most people, as it is attractive enough to catch attention of people around you.

8. Q: I have lot of gray hair, will I be able to cover gray?

A: Gray hair is usually coarser and dryer then the other type of hair, as they tend to lose the natural
oils. Up to 20% gray can be covered easier by the semi-permanent dye as Lustrous Henna® in any shade. People with more than 20% gray may require two or three applications to get a desired shade. Once you achieve the desired shade, it is normally easy to maintain afterwards.

9. Q: My hair is dry; will Lustrous Henna® work on my hair?

A: Lustrous Henna® not only color hair but its conditioning properties help brings body, life and vibrancy to dry damaged hair. Lustrous Henna enriches hair with its essential oil, giving hair natural radiance.
