Hair Dye Allergy –Is There Really a Natural Remedy?

Circassian_hair_dye.Hair Dye Allergy –a Natural Remedy?

“I knew that there were millions of people out there that truly need a natural hypoallergenic hair dye.”
“Although we all have to live through some ailments and other health problems from time to time, nature has created a remedy for every health problem in plants; whether it is fresh produce, dried herbs, essential oils or extracts. The key to beautiful health is using pure botanical ingredients derived from nature. The concept of natural beauty incorporates a philosophy based on the mystery of the therapeutic values and vital energy of plants.”  -Syed Abbas, Saba Botanical of USA.

Syed Abbas. www.SabaBotanical.comThe Quest for a Truly All-Natural Hair Dye

He was only in his early twenties when his black hair started turning gray. Premature gray hair was hurting his image. Thus, Syed began his struggle to keep his formerly youthful appearance. Like countless other men and women, he used synthetic hair dye to hide the gray, however, after a couple years of use he started to experience allergic reactions to the dye: intensely itchy scalp left red and irritated. Unfortunately, his problem only got worse, even with so-called ‘mild’ hair dye. He was left with thinning hair and bald spots. His thick hair was gone and what was left was: gray.

Eventually, following a friend’s advice, he decided to use what he thought was an all-natural product, "black henna" also called Kali Mendhi (Hindi translation for black henna). The result was a nightmare! It ended with a trip to the Emergency Room: Blisters all over his scalp and sideburns, a swollen face and his eyes were almost sealed shut. He later found out that the Kali Mendhi black henna, contained paraphenylenediamine (PPD). The reason for the adverse reaction uncovered! The quest continued to find an all natural hair dye that was free of ammonia, peroxide, PPD and similar chemicals.

At last, the natural hair dye answer: pure henna. Syed started using pure henna to cover his gray. The result was that his hair and scalp were revitalized. However, there was one big negative. His hair was now a scary reddish-orange. All he ever wanted was his black hair back!

Lustrous henna new pkgSyed’s Brainchild: Lustrous Henna®

He finally realized that if he couldn't find the natural hair dye he was looking for, he would have to invent it himself-using NATURE. (Since there is nothing grows in nature that gives a black color.) His quest for a natural hair dye came to fruition after several years of research. He worked in collaboration with the AMA Herbal Company of India who had only worked with natural dyes for textiles, previously.  A revolutionary 100% natural hair dye that does not contain toxic chemicals is truly a brainchild of Syed Abbas. He also created an application process that is safe, healthy and very easy to use. Just mix and apply. No need to wait for countless hours. Results are much quicker than traditional henna that involves several hours to complete.

“Lustrous Henna is a wonderful product. In my opinion this is 8th wonder of the world, which you guys have invented. I am finding it better in many ways when compared with branded PPD based chemical hair dyes which I have been using for a long time.

Lustrous Henna lasts long, in my case I use it once in 20 days. It is skin friendly, doesn't irritate and prevent me from `alopecia' which I had developed with chemical dyes. Even if I use it once in a month, it will not show white resin, the hair will rather show light reddish color. Most of all, it’s all-natural, which is a great feeling of being safe.”

“I have about 30-40% of white hair. Being an engineer, I am aware of the harm that PPD based dyes can cause to human. For this reason I had never dyed my hair.

When I saw Lustrous Henna, I found it very interesting and decided to use Lustrous Henna Brown. The results are really good. It turned all my hair in brown with my white got good brown colour. These results really give me great confidence and make me feel younger when I look into the mirror.

This is really a good natural product.”

Olive Oil for Great-looking Nails and Lustrous Hair.

Nail Care and Hair Care: Internally
Olive oil -1Extra-virgin olive oil should be included in a healthy diet. A healthy diet is the key to healthy nails and healthy hair. Healthy nutritional changes can promote hair and nail growth and prevent nail damage and hair loss. You can obtain most of these from the foods you eat. If taking supplements, do not overdo it, since overuse can cause other health problems. Below are other essential foods to ingest, in addition to using extra-virgin olive oil for a heart-healthy diet.
Healthy Diet for Great Nail Care and Hair Growth:
  • Include omega-3 fatty acids; an essential part of your healthy diet. For nail care and hair growth, try to eat salmon (preferable wild Alaskan salmon), sardines, herring or mackerel two or three times a week. Or, sprinkle two tablespoons of freshly ground flaxseeds per day on your cereal or salads, or eat walnuts.
  • Supplement your diet with the essential omega-6 fatty acid called GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) in the form of black currant oil or evening primrose oil, available in capsules or soft gels at health food stores. Take 500 mg of either twice a day. Be patient with this one. You won't see results for six to eight weeks.
  • Minerals that strengthen the nails and hair shaft: calcium, selenium and silicon (silica).
  • Minerals that stimulates hair growth: manganese and zinc.
  • Minerals needed that help prevent thin, flat nails and hair loss: iron (deficiency can cause hair loss), iodine (regulates thyroid hormone -affects hair growth).
  • Vitamin that strengthen the nails and hair shaft: vitamin B-7, vitamin A (retinol).
  • Vitamins that stimulates nail and hair growth: vitamins B-1 (thiamin), B-2 (riboflavin), B-3 (niacin), B-5 (pantothenic acid), B-6 (pyridoxine), B-9 (folic acid), B-12 (cobalamin), vitamin E.
Nail Care and Hair Care: Externally
2 handsOlive oil can not only be used internally, for a healthy diet, but externally for great skin, nails and hair. Olive oil can be used as a nighttime massage oil for hair, hands and nails.
Olive Oil for Nail Care:
1.) Simply warm the olive oil and soak nails for about 10 minutes; cover with cotton sleep gloves (worn while sleeping). Go to sleep.
2.) Use the following recipe to soften skin and strengthen nails.
Moisturizing Paraffin Bath for Hands.
4 ounces paraffin
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 tbsp. Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask Skin Treatment

In a small saucepan, heat the first 2 ingredients together until liquid. Mix in Lustrous Henna® Face & Body Mask Skin Treatment until well-blended. Cool to comfortably warm and "paint" each hand or dip both hands at once into the mixture. Wrap in plastic wrap. Leave on 10 minutes; then peel off.

Olive Oil for Hair Care:

Nighttime Hot Oil Hair Massage Therapy for Hair

Before going to bed (or anytime you have an extra 6-8 hours to wear a plastic cap), massage hot oil (EEVO/extra-virgin olive oil) into your scalp. Be careful not to make it too hot-should still be able to touch it without scalding your fingers.
Cover hair with a plastic cap or wrap and hair bonnet/scarf. (Sleep on a towel to protect pillow from possible leaking). In the morning, (before bathing) mix a little lemon juice and acv (apple cider vinegar) together and apply it to your scalp, dabbing with a soft cloth.  Leave on for about 5 minutes and rinse out. Wash hair with Lustrous Henna Dry Shampoo Powder (made into a paste). Cover hair with plastic cap. Leave shampoo powder on hair for 5 minutes and rinse out. This will also help prevent dandruff and hair loss.
Taking good care of your hair will not only prevent hair loss, but will help you strengthen and maintain great-looking nails.

Hair Dye Naturally -Lustrous Henna® is EASY

Hair Dye Naturally
Lustrous Henna® is EASY -Just Boil, Mix, Apply for Beautiful Color

1.     Boil Water.
2.     Mix water into a paste with Lustrous Henna®.
3.     Apply paste to hair when warm enough to handle.
Then follow Lustrous Henna® package instructions for completion in less than 90 minutes.

Lustrous Henna. www.SabaBotanical.com
Henna Hair Dye Application Made Easier

Lustrous Henna® color hair dye is completely a plant-based, natural hair dye. It's made by combining pure henna with natural botanical ingredients and comes in various shades including a lovely shade of red hair. No more bright red hair! Lustrous Henna® hair dye comes in a total of ten (10) natural hair color shades.
The traditional henna application is no longer a tedious waiting game. The quicker application process of Lustrous Henna® color hair dye is a real time saver when compared to traditional henna application method. It usually takes -only about 90 minutes- from start to finish. Now that's henna application made easier.

Modern Living vs. Traditional Henna Hair Dye Application

Traditional henna application can take several hours, sometimes a full day to achieve the desired results. This is because you must wait hours for the hair dye to release after mixing the powder. Then wait longer after application of the hair dye for complete henna hair color results.

Even though pure henna by itself is a natural hair dye, solely using pure henna for hair dye produces a red hair shade that is not very attractive, on most complexions. Traditional henna application generally produces a bright, bright red hair! Actually, the hair dye produces a red-orange or orange-red color (take your pick). Do you really want bright red hair? (Didn't think so).

Condition Your Hair with Lustrous Henna ® Hair Dye

Natural hair is not only left with a radiant color but it is conditioned by the pure henna and other botanical ingredients. Lustrous Henna® natural hair dye also is appropriately named because hair is conditioned and the natural hair color looks and feels soft, supple and truly lustrous.

Flaxseed Oil Benefits

Flax_seed_oilFlaxseed Oil Benefits

Flaxseed oil, containing an abundance of Omega-3 fatty acids contributes to healthy hair growth. It’s known to revitalize the scalp in part due to its anti-inflammatory properties. The essential fatty acids have been known to combat psoriasis and eczema. Flaxseed oil, when taken as a dietary supplement, also promotes shiny, radiant and healthy hair.

Flaxseed oil can be found
in whole food markets and other all-natural or herb stores. You can make your own at a fraction of the price and make sure it’s stored in amber glass instead of black plastic, but you will have to invest in a (cold) oil press extractor.

To make Cold-Pressed Flaxseed Oil,
you’ll still need to purchase flax seed and an oil press extractor. Flax seed can be found easily in international farmer's markets and better grocery stores. For information on purchasing an Oil Press Extractor unit, do your own research and make your own purchasing decision according to your budget and personal need:

(Oil press extraction demo is for instructional purposes only. No connection with Saba Botanical of USA)

Did you know that natural herbal oils you've probably already use for skin care are known to help strengthen, regrow hair and to eliminate dandruff. They’re easy to apply, and when used along with the natural botanical powders at Saba Botanical of USA, might make a difference in your rate of hair growth in just a few short months.

Hibiscus. A Beautiful Flower that Beautifies Hair.

Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis PinkHibiscus, an Ingredient in Hair Loss Treatment and More

"Hibiscus rosa-sinensis has a number of medical uses in Chinese herbology. Lokapure s.g.et.al their research indicates some potential in cosmetic skin care; for example, an extract from the flowers of Hibiscus rosa- sinensis has been shown to function as an anti-solar agent by absorbing ultraviolet radiation.

In the Indian traditional system of medicine, Ayurveda, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, especially the white and red, is considered to have medicinal properties. The roots are used to make various concoctions believed to cure ailments such as cough, hair loss or hair greying. In many parts of Asia, in addition to being used for medicinal purposes, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis  is still used to stimulate thicker hair growth, for hair loss treatment and scalp disorders, prevent pre-mature gray and help retain natural color of hair. It acts as a natural emollient hair conditioner and can be used in mild shampoo, hair loss treatment and promote hair growth.

Hair Dye Chemical- Toulenediamine. How Safe?

Chemical dyed hair. How Risky?Hair Dye Chemical Question: Toulenediamine, What is It?
“Toluene-2,5-Diamine and Toluene-2,5-Diamine Sulfate are used as ingredients in the formulation of permanent hair dyes, colors and tints. Toluene-3,4-Diamine may also be used in hair dye products.” (1) This permanent hair color chemical has also been called para-toluenediamine (PTD) or p-toluenediamine.
How Safe is P-Toluenediamine in Permanent Hair Color Dye?
It depends on whose hair color research (or lack of it) you choose to rely on. Natural hair color safety should be paramount in your choice of hair coloring dye.
The “Experts” Say:
After extensive scientific research, the European Commission (Health and Consumer Safety) concluded that the use of toluene-2,5-diamine cannot be considered safe for hair coloring or hair shaft . The National Allergy Research Centre in Denmark concluded that hair color dye users need more protection and a ‘preventative strategy’ to reduce cases of severe allergic contact dermatitis.

Research teamScientific Committee on Consumer Products Conclusion on Toluene-2,5-diamine in Hair Coloring: UNSAFE
“The SCCP is of the opinion that the use of toluene-2,5-diamine cannot be considered safe based on the available data. This conclusion may be re-evaluated if human toxicokinetic data were to become available in which dosages used more closely approximate the intended use of the substance.
· Toluene-2,5-diamine is an extremely potent skin sensitizer.
· Clarification must be given on the myocyte degeneration in the dose range finding study of the 90 day study.
· Toluene-2,5-diamine sulfate itself has no mutagenic potential in vivo.
However, studies on genotoxicity/mutagenicity in finished hair dye formulations should be undertaken following the relevant SCCNFP/SCCP opinions and in accordance with its Notes of Guidance.” (2)

National Allergy Research Centre Abstract on Toluene-2,5-diamine in Hair Coloring :
UNSAFE

“Colouring of hair can cause severe allergic contact dermatitis. The most frequently reported hair dye allergens are p-phenylenediamine (PPD) and toluene-2,5-diamine, which are included in, respectively, the patch test standard series and the hairdressers series. The aim of the present study was to identify dye precursors and couplers in hair dyeing products causing clinical hair dye dermatitis and to compare the data with the contents of these compounds in a randomly selected set of similar products… Hair dye allergy may cause severe clinical reactions, and the current regulation is insufficient in protection of the users. A preventive strategy is needed.”
(3)

USA Expert Panel Opinion on Toluene-2,5-diamine in Hair Coloring :
SAFE

On the opposite side of the dilemma is the conclusion on use of these permanent hair color ingredients by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel. They state that Toluene-2,5-Diamine and Toluene-2,5-Diamine Sulfate are safe for use as ingredients in permanent hair dyes :

“The safety of Toluene-2,5-Diamine, Toluene-2,5-Diamine Sulfate and Toluene-3,4-Diamine in hair dyes has been assessed by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel. The CIR Expert Panel evaluated the scientific data and concluded that Toluene-2,5-Diamine and Toluene-2,5-Diamine Sulfate were safe for use as hair dye ingredients . The CIR Expert Panel concluded that the data were insufficient to assess the safety of Toluene-3,4-Diamine as an ingredient in hair dyes . (1)

A Serious Word of Caution

Before deciding to continue using chemical hair color dyes, let’s learn more about the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel and who they work for - from their own website:

“Cosmeticsinfo.org is an information Web site that includes factual, scientific information on ingredients most commonly used in cosmetics and personal care products in the United States. The Personal Care Products Council (the Council) and its member companies sponsor this Web site to provide consumers with easily accessible comprehensive safety information on cosmetics and personal care products and to help consumers make informed purchases.” (1)

Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR), Cosmeticinfo.org Web site Sponsor:

"Based in Washington, D.C., the Council is the trade association representing the cosmetic, toiletry and fragrance industry in the United States and globally. Founded in 1894, the Council has a membership of more than 600 companies including manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers of the vast majority of finished personal care products marketed in the United States ."
(1) (italics ours)

This Council actually represents the manufacturers who actively promote the use of chemicals like para-toluenediamine (PTD) or p-toluenediamine in their hair color products.

Therefore, even though the Council provides extremely valuable information on other topics, how can this expert conclusion on this particular issue be deemed as totally accurate?
Reported ‘facts’ can be confusing and at times, overwhelming. However, as consumers, it is wise to take extra precautions to be safe and protect our hair color.

Only you can decide whom you will listen to.

Skin Care Done Naturally -Avoid Harmful Chemicals!

www.SabaBotanical.comSkin Care Done Naturally from Ancient Times

Natural beauty products used to be so uncomplicated. Quite simple. Since ancient times, women have desired natural beauty. Long ago, natural beauty wasn’t much of a problem to obtain since that's basically all there was and modern technology was nonexistent.

Are Natural Beauty Products Really Beneficial?

It may come as a surprise to you, that most of the so-called “natural” skin care products are neither natural no a benefit for proper skin care. In fact, many contain ingredients that have proven to be extremely detrimental to your health.

www.SabaBotanical.comAvoid “Natural” Skin Care Products that are of No Benefit

Buying natural skin care? Think again if you think all of your cosmetics promote natural beauty with natural skin care.
The following resource is from the Environmental Working Group Database* in Washington, D.C.:
Public health laws allow:
  • Almost any chemical as an ingredient in personal care products
  • Misleading and incomplete labeling of ingredients
  • Unsubstantiated claims about product benefits
  • No required safety testing of products or ingredients
Therefore, it’s imperative to read the labels of normally used and “all natural”, or “natural” skin care products. (italics ours)

They may contain:
DMDM hydantoin bronopol (2-Bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol): Cosmetics preservatives that decompose and release formaldehyde , which the International Agency on Research on Cancer lists as a known human carcinogen. The preservatives and their decomposition products, including formaldehyde, can trigger allergic reactions.
Fragrance: This catch-all term can include hundreds of chemicals and trigger allergic reactions.
Ingredients can have harmful contaminants : Many common ingredients can contain impurities linked to cancer and other health concerns.

Avoid these common ingredients where possible:

  • DMDM hydantoin,
  • Diazolidinyl urea,
  • Imidazolidinyl urea,
  • Ceteareth,
  • Polyethylene glycol and PEG
Federal law doesn’t require companies to list on product labels any of the chemicals in their fragrance mixture.
PEG/Ceteareth/Polyethylene compounds : These synthetic chemicals are frequently contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, which the U.S. government considers a probable human carcinogen and which readily penetrates the skin.
Resorcinol : Common ingredient in hair color and bleaching products; skin irritant, toxic to the immune system and frequent cause of hair dye allergy. In animal studies, resorcinol can disrupt normal thyroid function. The federal government regulates exposures to resorcinol in the workplace, but its use is not restricted in personal care products.”

www.SabaBotanical.comLearn What Natural Skin Care Really Is

With carefully reading and review of solid companies truly dedicated to providing safe and truly natural skin care products, you can still enjoy natural beauty. No hype, false claims or lies to seduce you from your hard-earned cash. Just simple, wholesome botanical ingredients that will cleanse, refresh and pamper you with really natural skin care.
Please don’t confuse natural botanical plant names with chemical names. Learn to differentiate the truly natural skin care products from chemically “natural”. Your beauty is important and your health is even more important.
So, are natural beauty products really beneficial? It all depends on the ingredients -behind the label.
