Deep Repair Masque -Recipes for Damaged Hair.

hair worries?Deep Repair Masque -Recipes for Damaged Hair.

You’ve finally done it. You’ve pulled and twisted and tugged and fried and starved your hair into a state of panic. All is not lost if you spend the time to take care of your hair properly. You MUST have a regular hair care routine if you want healthy hair. No one wants damaged hair, so let’s start with a couple of deep repair masque recipes to get your hair on the road to wellness.

Damaged Hair Deep Repair Masque #1

Blend together the following in a bowl: egg yolks;1 cup of full-fat mayonnaise (let mayo warm to room temperature); ½ cup of olive oil (some folks prefer extra-virgin olive oil also known as, EVOO). Makes 1-2 hair treatments, depending on your hair length.

Apply this mixture to your hair thoroughly –from root to tip-and gently massage it in for 3-5 minutes. Cover your head with shower cap; then cover with a towel to keep the heat in. Leave on for  20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Final part of rinse: use cold water for about a minute to close follicles No need to shampoo. It’s best to use this masque when you have time to spend to let your hair dry naturally. There will be some oil left in your hair but it will be conditioning your hair until your next shampoo.

BTW: when ready to shampoo, suggest to shampoo with totally natural and extremely gentle: Lustrous Henna® Shampoo Powder since it doesn’t soap up much and contains more conditioning herbs –no need to use other conditioner.

Note: This hair masque is best used immediately after mixing. (When mixture is refrigerated and cold, the fats and oils can’t penetrate the hair follicles as well.)

½ cup of full-fat mayonnaise, 1/2 of a ripe or over-ripe avocado, ¼ cup olive oil, ¼ cup almond oil, 1 small jar of organic bananas baby food (won’t leave stuff in hair)

Make sure avocado is completely mashed and blend everything together until smooth, like pudding, with no separation of color.  Apply this mixture to your hair thoroughly –from root to tip-and gently massage it in for 3-5 minutes.

Cover your head with shower cap; then cover with a towel to keep the heat in. Leave on for  20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Final part of rinse: use cold water for about a minute to close follicles. No need to shampoo. It’s best to use this masque when you have time to spend to let your hair dry naturally. There will be some oil left in your hair but it will be conditioning your hair until your next shampoo.

Extra Hair Tip: Warm or Hot  temperature opens the hair follicles and the hair conditioner can penetrate the follicles deeper. Cold water closes the hair follicles. Remember: after you rinse your hair, rinse again (briefly) with very cold water (whatever you can stand). You will have radiant, shiny and lustrous hair using the hair masque with this tip.

The Face and Body mask is hands down my favorite product. Many of you know that I’m a spa brat. You can rub me down with just about anything at a spa- mud, seaweed, chocolate, blueberries- I’ve done it all.

This is one of the best facial masks I have ever tried.
It mixes with water and apply the paste. I left it on for about an hour and then washed off. You can feel it tightening on your face and your face just lifting. It is the cheapest facelift you will ever get! After I washed it off I noticed an immediate glow and smoothness to my face. My skin seemed to be much more even-shaded and just wonderful. And, since I only used it on my face, I only used needed a small amount  of the package. So... I could get 3-4 facials; that is my idea of home economics!

Hair Loss Concerns? Dermatologist Visit Can Help.

Hair Loss Concerns...

hair loss problems.

Dermatologist? Not Usually a Natural Hair Care Theme

“All Natural Herbal Hair Coloring/Natural Hair Dying Education. Focused on: Non-toxic PPD-free Hair Dye for Men and Women, Vegetable Based Hair Color Dye for Gray Hair Cover. Face, Skin and Body Care combining Ancient Botanicals with modern Earth-Friendly, Green Living.” natural cures for hair loss. www.sababotanical.com

As alluded to in our top banner, the LustrousHenna.com blog is primarily devoted to naturally improving overall hair and skin condition though the use of ancient botanicals. However, in today’s modern age, there are a number of afflictions that can affect the growth of hair in men and women that could be due to an underlying medical condition that might warrant a visit to a dermatologist. An abnormal thyroid, hormonal changes from conditions like pregnancy or menopause; even medications for blood pressure and gout can contribute to hair loss (hair fall).

Natural Cures Help Hair Loss (Hair Fall)

If hair loss is a temporary condition, due to undue stress, temporary illness or similar issue, then proven home remedies and ancient natural cures can help stop hair loss (hair fall). Natural cures include a change in diet (quite beneficial) as we have written in a number of articles in our blog archives. Exercise (also a part of natural cures) help improves overall health and can boost self-esteem while treating some causes of hair loss (hair fall).

The botanical extracts and powders on the Saba Botanical website are well-known to be natural cures for hair loss (hair fall), used for literally centuries. In our modern day, they have proven to be truly beneficial home remedies.

Hair loss. Natural cures at www.SabaBotanical.com

Hair Loss (Hair Fall) Due To Physical and Emotional Stress

According to the American Hair Loss Council*, surgeries and stress can temporarily affect hair growth:

“Surgeries, severe illnesses and emotional stress can cause hair loss. The body simply shuts down production of hair during periods of stress since it is not necessary for survival and instead devotes its energies toward repairing vital body structures. In many cases there is a three month delay between the actual event and the onset of hair loss. Furthermore, there may be another three month delay prior to the return of noticeable hair regrowth. This then means that the total hair loss and regrowth cycle can last 6 months or possibly longer when induced by physical or emotional stress. There are some health conditions which may go undetected that can contribute to hair loss. These include anemia or low blood count and thyroid abnormalities. Both of these conditions can be detected by a simple, inexpensive blood test.”

Dermatologist Visit Really Needed?

If you are concerned that your hair loss is excessive, then it’s best to visit a dermatologist. In fact the American Hair Loss Council suggests the following: “First have your hair loss diagnosed by a competent dermatologist who sees hair loss patients on a regular basis. Once you know the diagnosis you will have a better understanding of exactly which treatment option may be best for you.” *Citations: ahlc.org website.

Avoid Scalp Damage to Prevent Hair Loss

Hair coloring with Chemical Hair Dye.Scalp Damage Causes

Permanent hair color dye products containing para-phenylenediamene (PPD), combinations of hydrogen peroxide and ammonia, as well as other chemical ingredients have proven to be extremely harmful to one’s health; especially through overuse. Unfortunately, synthetic hair dye has caused major scalp damage, resulting in hair loss.

Why Hair Loss?

Why can hair loss occur after using permanent hair dyes? Permanent hair dye penetrates the cuticle of the hair, damaging it. The hair is exposed to hydrogen peroxide and ammonia, causing overlapping of cuticular seates to lift from the hair cortex, thereby leading to rapid loss of amino acid. By removing the proteins that build the structural strength, the hair shaft is weakened. The chemical damage results in an easily fractured hair shaft and eventual hair loss.

Man dying his hair with chemical dye.

Problems associated with chemical hair dyes:

  • Hair shaft damage produces dull, brittle, unmanageable hair; cosmetically unacceptable.
  • Scalp damage from chemical hair dyes can be permanent.
  • Irreversible damage to the protein structure and fracture of the hair shaft.
  • Epidermal type of melasma on the forehead and neck; black circle around the eyes due to sun sensitization of the skin.
Dermatologists want potential patients to be aware of the risks involved in using chemical hair dye. Since scalp damage and hair loss can be irreversible, why risk it? Use what many dermatologists recommend: pure, all-natural henna for hair.

A Hair Loss Tragedy with a Happy Ending

Dear Saba Botanical, I have been using regular hair dyes containing PPD for years and never had a problem, then all of a sudden I had a severe allergic reaction.  I had spent several months recovering from this in and out of hospitals, on steroids, antibiotics and IV medications.

As a result from this reaction I have lost most of my beautiful black thick hair due to scar tissue left behind.

After months of my awful ordeal, being a middle aged women I began to see gray hair but knew I could never ever use hair dye again and wasn't sure what to do. I ended up trying every kind of hair dye I could find not containing PPD. Unfortunately, nothing was covering my grays but instead always grabbing a light red tint on my black hair.

Hallelujah!  I was just about to give up after trying so many different products on- line and I found your web site containing Lustrous Henna hair color. I only ordered one pack at the time not with high expectations but tried it out and it worked!  My grays were covered and my black hair thicker and had a beautiful shine to it.

To all the women and men allergic to hair dye and want an all-natural healthy product for your hair - Looking for a solution, Please Trust Me, Lustrous Henna Rocks!

Allergic Contact Dermatitis from Chemical Hair Dyes –Very Risky.

Allergic Contact Dermatitis

The number of hair stylists, clients and consumers using home hair dye kits who suffer from allergic contact dermatitis is on the increase. Allergic contact dermatitis is a serious warning sign that hair dye “chemical overload” is affecting you. Studies show that the possibility of serious allergic reaction increases with each use. What you don’t feel ‘today’, you may severely feel ‘tomorrow’.  Meaning: The next time you use chemical hair dye could cause an allergic reaction with serious consequences.

Dermatologists in New Zealand have documented extensive studies pertaining to hair dye use and allergic contact dermatitis.

For information on hair dye allergies; photos and further details on allergic reaction, read: Allergy to Paraphenylenediamine.

Hair Dye Allergies and Chemicals

Hair salon and consumer hair coloring formulas use a high number of toxic chemicals in their formulas, with high potential for hair dye allergies. In one analysis of popular brands and formulations, Consumer Reports found nearly 20 different ingredients that were classified as potential human carcinogens “Conventional dyes contain high level of toxic chemicals that can be absorbed through the scalp, where there is a rich blood supply. Then these chemicals circulate throughout your body, where they can be stored in the tissues and cause adverse health effects," says Marianne Marchese, ND, who practices natural medicine at a Woman's Time Clinic in Portland, Oregon.

A recent study conducted at Yale University found a link between permanent hair dye allergies and Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. One study for example, suggested that woman over the age of 50 who have used permanent hair dyes for ten or more years have an increased risk of breast cancer. Yet another discovered that users of permanent hair dyes are 2:1 times more likely to have bladder cancer. Other studies have linked the use of hair dyes to allergic contact dermatitis and skin disorders like eczema and to far more serious diseases like leukemia and ovarian cancer.

Try an Alternate Solution to Chemical Beauty
Avoid hair dye allergies. Use an all-natural plant-based hair color dye to promote natural beauty. Fortunately, a nontoxic alternative to synthetic hair colorants does exist: Lustrous Henna ® 100% Natural Hair Dye.

A medical doctor's experience with hair dye allergies:
