www.SabaBotanical.comShikakai Powder Shampoo for “Do-It-Yourself” Healthy Hair

Healthy Hair Shampoo (Quick Method)

When ready to use, apply to hair and leave on for approximately 5-10 minutes or longer (if desired). Wash out thoroughly. You can follow up with a natural conditioner (although not necessary).

When ready, do the following: Heat mixture to ALMOST boiling –but DON’T boil. Turn down heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. Discard solids. Let mixture cool until warm to touch.

Stir in the following ingredients to the mixture:
1 tablespoon of honey
2 teaspoons of almond oil
2 teaspoons of olive oil
1 teaspoon of Vitamin E oil

Dermatologist Visit Can Help Hair Loss Concerns

www.SabaBotanical.comDermatologist? Not Usually a Natural Hair Care Theme

“All Natural Herbal Hair Coloring/Natural Hair Dying Education. Focused on: Non-toxic PPD-free Hair Dye for Men and Women, Vegetable Based Hair Color Dye for Gray Hair Cover. Face, Skin and Body Care combining Ancient Botanicals with modern Earth-Friendly, Green Living.”

As alluded to in our top banner, the LustrousHenna.com blog is primarily devoted to naturally improving overall hair and skin condition though the use of ancient botanicals. However, in today’s modern age, there are a number of afflictions that can affect the growth of hair in men and women that could be due to an underlying medical condition that might warrant a visit to a dermatologist. An abnormal thyroid, hormonal changes from conditions like pregnancy or menopause; even medications for blood pressure and gout can contribute to hair loss (hair fall).

Natural Cures Help Hair Loss (Hair Fall)

If hair loss is a temporary condition, due to undue stress, temporary illness or similar issue, then proven home remedies and ancient natural cures can help stop hair loss (hair fall). A change in diet can be quite beneficial as we have written in a number of articles in our blog archives. Exercise also help improves overall health and can boost self-esteem while treating some causes of hair loss (hair fall).

The botanical extracts and powders on the Saba Botanical website are well-known to be natural cures for hair loss (hair fall), used for literally centuries. In our modern day, they have proven to be truly beneficial home remedies.

www.SabaBotanical.comHair Loss (Hair Fall) Due To Physical and Emotional Stress

According to the American Hair Loss Council*, surgeries and stress can temporarily affect hair growth:

“Surgeries, severe illnesses and emotional stress can cause hair loss. The body simply shuts down production of hair during periods of stress since it is not necessary for survival and instead devotes its energies toward repairing vital body structures. In many cases there is a three month delay between the actual event and the onset of hair loss. Furthermore, there may be another three month delay prior to the return of noticeable hair regrowth. This then means that the total hair loss and regrowth cycle can last 6 months or possibly longer when induced by physical or emotional stress. There are some health conditions which may go undetected that can contribute to hair loss. These include anemia or low blood count and thyroid abnormalities. Both of these conditions can be detected by a simple, inexpensive blood test.”

www.SabaBotanical.comDermatologist Visit Really Needed?

If you are concerned that your hair loss is excessive, then it’s best to visit a dermatologist. In fact the American Hair Loss Council suggests the following:

“First have your hair loss diagnosed by a competent dermatologist who sees hair loss patients on a regular basis. Once you know the diagnosis you will have a better understanding of exactly which treatment option may be best for you.”

Allergic Contact Dermatitis from PPD in Hair Dye –Can be Avoided.

PPD hair dye is dangerous. www.SabaBotanical.comAllergic Contact Dermatitis Caused by PPD* is Serious.

The following information is quoted from an article in the Canadian Journal of Medicine**:

“Contact dermatitis caused by PPD in hair dye often extends beyond the scalp to include the forehead, neck, eyelids and face. It usually manifests as pruritic, edematous, erythematous scaly patches and plaques; vesicular lesions sometimes occur as well. It can take weeks to fully resolve and may require treatment with corticosteroids, orally administered. In addition to more localized reactions, reports of disseminated dermatitic eruptions after PPD exposure that can be quite debilitating have been reported. Other skin reactions, such as postinflammatory hyper-or hypopigmentation, can also ensue.

All 6 of our patients were told that they had an allergy to PPD and cross-reacting substances. Interestingly, none of them suspected that their contact dermatitis to hair dye had stemmed from their previous black henna tattoo. They were instructed to never again get black henna tattoos and to avoid dyeing their hair with any products containing PPD or other para-dye ingredients. It was pointed out to them that PPD can be in both light and dark shades of hair dye. The patients were given a list of products that may contain PPD or cross-react with it.¹ There are some PPD-free hair dyes that patients with PPD allergies can use. Some patients may be able to tolerate highlights if the hair dye does not touch the scalp when applied, but application of dyes with PPD to hair roots (i.e., where the dye comes into contact with the scalp) must be avoided.”

www.SabaBotanical.comAvoid Allergic Contact Dermatitis Caused by PPD in Chemical Hair Dye.

The solution for avoiding Allergic Contact Dermatitis is to avoid using synthetic hair dyes altogether. Most contain PPD, ammonia, peroxide and other harmful chemicals. As noted above, results through continued use can be quite detrimental.

Dermatological Solution for Avoiding Allergic Contact Dermatitis

The solution given by most dermatologists across the globe is to use an all-natural hair dye such as pure henna, that works like a semi-permanent color dye. but without chemicals. The problem with using pure henna dye is that it only gives one color: bright red-orange. Most people don’t care for pure henna color. Most people are satisfied with covering their gray hair or coloring their hair with their own natural shade of hair color. www.SabaBotanical.com

Many men and women have experienced successful results using Lustrous Henna® 100% all Natural Hair Dye. It comes in nine (9) natural hair color shades. The shades are a result of mixing pure henna extracts with the extracts of other botanical plants. All shades of color are totally natural and therefore, don’t contain any harmful chemical substance. Allergic Contact Dermatitis can be avoided since allergy reaction to pure henna is extremely rare. Lustrous Henna® 100% all Natural Hair Dye is a combination of ancient traditional hair dye combined with modern green living.

Paraphenylenediamine (PPD) is a chemical substance that is widely used as a permanent hair dye. It may also been found in textile or fur dyes, dark coloured cosmetics, temporary tattoos, photographic developer and lithography plates, photocopying and printing inks, black rubber, oils, greases and gasoline.

Traditional Henna Hair Color or Lustrous Henna. Which is Quicker?

www.SabaBotanical.comTraditional Henna Hair Dye Release Takes Several Hours

Henna hair dye or Hina (Lawsonia Inermis) is known by a variety of names: Al-Khanna, Al-henna, Jamaica Mignonette, Mehndi, and Mendee. The lawsone, primarily concentrated in the petioles of the leaves, cause staining or dying. However, they must be crushed in order for the lawsone molecules contained within the leaf, to release (when mixed with a mildly acidic liquid, such as found in lemon juice, strong tea, etc.). Once released, the lawsone gradually bind to the outer layer of the proteins in the skin or hair, thus staining or dying it.

Fortunately, to make hair dye, we don’t have to search for and crush henna ourselves. It is commonly traded as a dried powder from milling and sifting the henna leaf. As a powder, it’s also known as mendhi and is not only used for dying hair color, but hair conditioning as well. Traditionally, the henna mix must be soaked for 6 to 12 hours and rest on the hair for 3 to 4 hours or the lawsone in the henna won’t work.
www.SabaBotanical.comLustrous Henna Hair Dye Quickly Releases in About an Hour

Thankfully, Lustrous Henna® hair color releases in about an hour. It’s much easier to apply and comes in many hair color shades . Being a true eco-friendly hair dye, the hair color comes from Mother Earth. Obviously henna powder is the primary ingredient in this natural vegetable hair color dye. The various shade mixes of hair dye include: Soft Black, Dark Brown, Brown, Mahogany, Red, Blonde, Golden Blonde, Medium Golden Blonde, and Golden.

100% Natural Ingredients of Lustrous Henna Hair Dye

Depending on the hair color shade, Lustrous Henna® contains the following ingredients (please refer to the package for more detail):

Pure Henna (Lawsonia Inermis)

Only high quality, finely sifted pure henna is used in Lustrous Henna ® hair dye . It’s described in the previous paragraphs of this article.

Indigo Powder.

The botanical name is Indigofera Tinctoria. Other synonyms are true indigo, pigmentum indicum, neel and neelii. The plant is actually a leafy shrub that grows 3-6 feet tall with magenta-colored flowers.

Indigo has been used since ancient times as a hair dye that is totally natural. It was used by men and women to dye textiles and dye hair color. The dye is made from processing the plant’s leaves by soaking them in water and allowing them to ferment. This converts the natural glycoside indicant into the dye, indigotin. It can then be pressed into cakes, dried and powdered. As a hair dye, it is used along with henna to create shades of color. It also makes hair soft and silky to the touch.

Catechu powder.

The botanical name is Acacia Catechu. It is commonly known as mimosa catechu, cutch, katha or khar This thorny tree grows up to 50 feet tall in the vicinity of Asia, China, India and the Indian Ocean. The heartwood extract is a natural hair coloring dye and is also used to dye textiles. The bark is a natural breath freshener called, "Katha".

Bacopa monnieri

Bacopa monnieri is a thyme-leafed water hyssop that is also called Brahmi, Halneem or Bacopa. It’s a perennial creeping herb that grows 1-2 feet tall that grows in wetlands, muddy shores and other marshy areas. As seen in the image, the leaves are succulent and thick. The plant contains small, white flowers with four or five petals. It can be found in the marsh in India and neighboring countries. It is also found in the USA in Florida and other southern states.

Acacia concinna

Acacia concinna is also known as Shikakai or Satla has been used in the Indian Subcontinent since ancient times for hair care. It’s known as, “fruit for hair” and is used as a mild cleansing shampoo in India. It doesn’t strip hair of natural oils and it also acts as a detangler.

Happy Feet Love Pampering!

Face and Body Mask Powder by Saba Botanical of USA Happy Feet Pedicure at Home.

Ready for great fun and some lustrous happy feet pampering in the privacy of your own home? Use a "Face Pack" for the ENTIRE BODY.

Get Ready: You’ll need a comfy robe, turban and open slippers (optional, but lots of fun). Also: towels, washcloths, dishes, access to bathroom and kitchen sinks, etc.

Make sure you have a Lustrous Henna ® Face & Body Maskpack available. If you want to add a pack of great-smelling Lustrous Henna® Orange Peel Powder, that’s an option too. Remember: a little goes a long way and you should have enough for several “happy feet” evenings.

Appeal to the senses and create a spa-like atmosphere

Music: nature sounds like the ocean, trickling brooks, soft classical music or some cool jazz. Lightly scented candles or essential oil simmering in water on stovetop or oil burner are aromatic and heighten the senses.

A glass of good wine or a cocktail can help create a pair of very happy feet too!

Foot Mask Pedicure

“Happy Feet”workout: Take a golf ball and rub it around the foot, concentrating on the arch andsides; or set a smooth river rock on carpeting and walk on the stone for a few minutes. If you have enough smooth rocks, you can also add them to a basin filled with warm Lustrous Henna® Soapnut (Reetha Fruit) Powder /water solution. Rub your feet back and forth on the stones. All workouts are soothing and massage the feet.

Exfoliate and cleanse: Fill large dishpan, bucket or whatever will fit your tootsies with warm Lustrous Henna® Soapnut (Reetha Fruit) Powder /water solution. Soak feet for several minutes. Using a pumice stone (or similar item), scrub calluses off heels. Rinse, then pat dry.

Apply mask: Apply to entire foot up to ankles. After 15-30 minutes, remove mask by rinsing feet in same container, replaced with clean water. After removing foot mask, if you want to proceed with toenail manicure, do so. Gently rub feet in favorite natural skin oil; pat dry. Be gentle!

The Face and Body mask is hands down my favorite product. Many of you know that I’m a spa brat. You can rub me down with just about anything at a spa-mud, seaweed, chocolate, blueberries- I’ve done it all. This is one of the best facial masks I have ever tried. It mixes with water and apply the paste. I left it on for about an hour and then washed off. You can feel it tightening on your face and your face just lifting. It is the cheapest facelift you will ever get! After I washed it off I noticed an immediate glow and smoothness to my face. My skin seemed to be much more even-shaded and just wonderful. And, since I only used it on my face, I only used needed a small amount of the package. So... I could get 3-4 facials; that is my idea of home economics!

Curly Hair. How to Love Your Locks

www.SabaBotanical.comCurly Hair Natural Care

Embrace the natural beauty of your curly hair and you will be moved to care for it gently and naturally. If you do this, the natural beauty of your curly hair will “thank you”. The following hair care tips will help you stay in touch with your own natural beauty. Others will admire your natural glamour too.

10 Hair Care Tips

  1. Stay away from relaxers, flat irons, blow dryers and other straightening appliances. Spiral curls be seductively attractive if you treat them right.
  2. Shampoo only when needed (no more than once a week). Instead: “Wash” your hair with a moisturizing conditioner*, instead of shampoo. Co-washing is gentler to your hair and you can do it 2 or 3 times a week if you want and still keep your locks protected from dryness and damage.
  3. www.SabaBotanical.comWhile hair is wet with conditioner, use a wide-toothed comb to gently comb your hair. Start from the ends, working up to the hair roots.
  4. Avoid clarifying shampoos. They will not protect your wet hair against damage. Choose a shampoo* that works well with curly hair, providing needed moisture without stripping hair of natural oils.
  5. Moisturize daily! Curly hair tends to be drier than other hair types; therefore, moisture is essential to eliminate frizz and brittle hair. First: Lightly spritz your hair with genuine aloe vera juice or other natural hair “spritz”. Next: Apply the moisturizing conditioner in the palm of your hands and gently work through hair from ends to root. A daily moisturizing conditioner can be made by combining your regular moisturizing conditioner with a little water to thin it out just a tad; then add a small amount of honey and olive oil, almond oil, avocado oil, etc.
  6. Smooth towels are the best choice for wet hair drying protection. Terrycloth towels can cause frizz and even damage the cuticle of the hair. Use a smooth fabric, like a cotton-knit (t-shirt fabric) or microfiber towel designed for curly hair.
  7. Oil seal your hair (lightly) during cooler seasons. Jojoba, lavender and rosemary are some oils easily absorbed, so you don’t have to worry about having oily shine or hands.
  8. Deep condition at least once a week with a moisturizing conditioner to combat excessively dry hair.
  9. A Hair Olive Oil Treatment (HOOT) or other oil treatment (known for natural hair care) is essential for great-looking curly hair.
  10. Don’t feed split ends. Every 2- 3 months (seriously that’s all that’s needed for healthy, well-cared for natural hair) have a hair stylist trim only your ends. Make sure your stylist knows that all you want is a light trimming of the ends (not a haircut) or you may start to wonder why your hair isn’t getting any longer.

www.SabaBotanical.comBONUS HAIR CARE TIPS:

Satin pillowcases love natural hair curls. Your hair will be kept from detangling. Cotton pillowcases suck natural oils from hair. If you don’t want to use a satin pillowcase, then cover your hair at night with a satin or satin like hair covering. This will protect your hair from the cotton pillowcase.

Celebrate your natural hair. Take care of it by following the hair care tips above. You’ll become a natural beauty with beautiful curly hair.
